The second-generation Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus is a capable wire-free video doorbell if you want a wide head-to-toe view, 2K video and flexible installation. Its main trade-offs are that saved recordings and richer person/package alerts require a Ring subscription, and the cited sources do not establish a dependable battery-runtime figure. Ring’s UK page calls it the “Battery Doorbell 2K Plus”; TechRadar’s June 14, 2026 review calls it the “Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen).” Ring says the name changed but the features did not, so check the generation and regional listing when comparing products.
What the 2K Plus offers
Ring specifies Retinal 2K video, up to 6x Enhanced Zoom and a 140° horizontal by 140° vertical field of view. That wide view is intended to show visitors and items near the doorstep, but the specifications alone do not guarantee that a face or package will be identifiable at every distance or in every lighting condition.

In its review, TechRadar found the square 2K framing and zoom useful for seeing both visitors and deliveries. It also reported favorable low-light color performance and positive results from two-way talk. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not a controlled test of image quality across homes or conditions. Read TechRadar’s review.

Does it need a subscription?
According to TechRadar’s June 14, 2026 review, live view and real-time alerts are available without a subscription, while saved recordings and person/package alerts require one. That distinction matters: without a plan, the doorbell can still tell you about activity as it happens, but the reviewed feature set does not give you the same ability to review recorded events later. Plan features can change and may differ by region, so confirm the current terms for your location before buying.
How does it compare with the regular Battery Doorbell 2K?
The clearest documented difference is Wi-Fi support: Ring specifies dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for the 2K Plus, compared with single-band Wi-Fi 4 at 2.4 GHz for the regular Battery Doorbell 2K. Ring recommends at least 10 Mbps upload speed for its 2K devices and notes that video resolution can vary with bandwidth. A compatible router and adequate upload capacity are therefore relevant to getting the intended video quality.

Ring’s product pages support this connectivity comparison, but do not provide a complete, same-market price comparison. Check the listings for your region and confirm that the product name and generation match; the names are easy to confuse. The regular model’s details are on Ring’s Battery Doorbell 2K page.
Battery, installation and wiring
The box includes a Quick Release Battery Pack, universal mounting plate, corner kit, Nickel Silver faceplate, installation tools and hardware, setup guide and security sticker. Ring estimates a 10-minute installation, while TechRadar says its reviewer completed installation in under 30 minutes. Neither is a guarantee for every doorway: the actual time depends on placement, surface and setup.

The battery pack is rechargeable, but neither Ring’s cited product page nor TechRadar’s review gives a quantified runtime suitable for predicting how often a particular household will need to recharge. Usage and installation conditions can affect battery drain, so do not treat any single estimate as a promised interval. TechRadar identifies Micro-USB charging as a drawback and notes that a spare battery can reduce charging downtime; verify compatible accessories and local availability before purchasing one.
You can wire the doorbell to an existing system if it meets Ring’s stated electrical requirements: a standard 8–24 VAC transformer, maximum 40 VA, 50/60 Hz. Check the transformer rating before connecting it. Ring’s installation estimate does not replace checking that the existing wiring and transformer are suitable.

Who should consider it?
- A good fit: You want a battery-powered installation, 2K video, a broad head-to-toe view and two-way conversation, and you are comfortable paying for a plan if you need saved recordings or richer person/package alerts.
- Think twice: You want recorded video without an ongoing subscription, need a known battery-replacement schedule before buying, or prefer USB-C charging. The cited review reports Micro-USB, and the available sources do not establish a runtime figure.
Ring’s UK product page lists a one-year limited warranty and says security updates are guaranteed until at least four years after the device is last available new on Ring’s websites. Treat those terms as market-specific and check the warranty and support language for the country where you plan to buy.
