Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSamsung has several separate features that people may call “privacy mode.” Choose the one that matches what you see: a screen that darkens from the side, private tabs in Samsung Browser, or a Secure Folder icon that has disappeared. They have different controls; there is no single switch for all of them.
If your screen looks dark from the side: turn off Privacy display
Privacy display limits what people can see when viewing your screen from an angle. Samsung documents these steps for the Galaxy S26 Ultra; menu availability and behavior may differ on other models. Samsung’s Privacy display instructions cover both Quick Panel and Settings controls.

- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Panel.
- Touch and hold Privacy display.
- Switch off Turn on Privacy display.
You can also open Settings > Display > Privacy Display and switch it off there. If the feature turns on again, check the same settings panel for automatic activation conditions. Samsung says it can be set to activate for selected apps, when entering a PIN, pattern, or password, or for notification pop-ups.

If you mean private tabs in Samsung Browser: leave Secret mode
Secret mode applies to Samsung Browser tabs, not the phone’s screen or system privacy settings. Open the tab manager and switch to the All tabs view, or close the Secret mode tab. Samsung also says closing the Browser app exits Secret mode. See Samsung’s Secret mode instructions.

Samsung says Secret mode does not save browsing history, cookies, or search records. Leaving Secret mode changes the browser’s current tab mode; it does not turn off other privacy features on your phone.
If the Secure Folder icon is missing: show it again
A hidden Secure Folder icon does not mean the folder’s contents have been deleted. To make the icon visible, use the Secure Folder tile in Quick Settings, or follow this settings path:

- Open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Folder.
- Turn on Add Secure Folder to Apps screen.
These labels and options can vary by software version and wireless provider, and some devices may not support Secure Folder. Samsung treats showing the icon and removing the folder as separate actions; do not remove or uninstall the folder just to make its icon reappear, since removal can affect its contents. If you mean browser tracking controls: check the Privacy dashboard
Samsung Browser’s Privacy dashboard is separate from Secret mode. Open Tools > Privacy to view blocked content and customize browser privacy options. This dashboard is not the switch for private tabs or the phone’s Privacy display. Samsung’s browsing privacy dashboard guide explains its controls.

If you mean Private album in Gallery
Private album is a distinct Gallery feature, not another name for Privacy display, Secret mode, or Secure Folder. Samsung India documents it for select Galaxy devices running One UI 8.5, but its support page does not explain how to disable it. The page was updated April 23, 2026. Check the Gallery settings and device-specific Samsung support guidance rather than applying instructions for a different feature: Samsung India’s Private album guide.

- Side-view screen privacy: Privacy display in phone settings or Quick Panel.
- Private browsing tabs: Secret mode in Samsung Browser.
- Missing protected-folder icon: Secure Folder visibility setting.
- Blocked web content or browser options: Privacy dashboard in Samsung Browser.
- Hidden Gallery media: Private album, available only on select devices with One UI 8.5 per Samsung India.
If none matches, provide the exact Galaxy model and One UI or Android version, plus what appears on screen. Samsung’s menu names and feature availability vary by model and software version.
