Galaxy restarts can be caused by Auto restart settings, updates, or third-party apps; a TV’s power cycling can involve its power connection, remote, HDMI-CEC, or network-connected devices. Try the steps for your device below, and stop if you find a damaged power cord or signs of physical damage.
If a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet keeps restarting
Use these checks if the whole phone or tablet shuts down and boots again. If only the display wakes or goes dark, check the physical key as described below.

1. Check Auto restart
Some Galaxy devices can restart automatically when needed or on a schedule. Open Settings > Device care or Settings > Device care > Auto optimisation > Auto restart, depending on your model and software. Turn off Restart when needed or Restart on schedule if you do not want those automatic restarts. Samsung notes that the feature may run while the device is idle, the screen is off, and the battery is at least 30%; availability and behavior vary by device. See Samsung’s Auto restart guidance.
2. Consider recent updates or app installs
If the restarting began after a software update or a new app, treat that change as a useful clue. Samsung lists updates and third-party apps among possible causes. Remove likely recent apps one at a time, then observe whether the restarts stop before removing another. Samsung’s Galaxy Safe mode instructions explain how to test whether downloaded apps may be involved.

3. Compare behavior in Safe mode
Safe mode runs the device with core apps and disables downloaded apps temporarily. If the phone or tablet stops restarting in Safe mode, a third-party app may be involved; uninstall recent apps one at a time and test again. If it continues restarting in Safe mode, Samsung says a hardware issue is likely and recommends having the device inspected at a service center. The steps to enter and leave Safe mode vary by model; use Samsung’s Safe mode guide.
4. Check whether a case is pressing a key
A jammed key can repeatedly wake the display and drain power. Remove the case if it might be pressing a key, and check that the key clicks normally. This check does not establish a fault by itself; it helps rule out accidental pressure.

5. Get help if the problem persists
If restarting continues in Safe mode, the device is physically damaged, or it cannot stay on long enough to troubleshoot, use Samsung Members diagnostics if available or contact Samsung service. Avoid repeatedly restarting or resetting a device that cannot remain powered on long enough to complete the process.

If a Samsung TV or projector keeps turning on and off
Distinguish an occasional unexpected power-on from repeated power cycling. A TV may receive power-on commands from a connected device or network feature, while continuous shutoffs can also require service inspection.

1. Check the power connection safely
Unplug the TV for 30 seconds, inspect the cord, then reconnect it. If you were using a surge protector, try a direct wall outlet. Do not use a cord that is visibly damaged. If it needs replacement, choose a cord matched to the exact TV model; a replacement cord will not address remote, connected-device, or software triggers. Samsung provides TV power troubleshooting steps.
2. Isolate HDMI devices and Anynet+
An HDMI-connected device can send control commands through Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC), a feature that lets compatible devices control one another. Temporarily turn Anynet+ off in the TV’s settings and see whether the cycling changes. Menu labels and paths differ by model. The tradeoff is that the TV remote may no longer control a connected device while Anynet+ is disabled. If the behavior changes, reconnect or test connected devices individually to narrow down the trigger.

3. Check network-based power-on features
Some compatible mobile devices or SmartThings connections can turn on a TV. Samsung also notes that abnormal wireless power-on signals may cause unexpected behavior. If you do not want this function, look in the TV settings for Power On with Mobile and turn it off if present. Feature names and availability depend on the model.
4. Test the remote separately
Remove the remote’s batteries and use the TV’s physical power button to compare behavior. If the TV behaves normally without the remote, check whether a remote button is stuck or troubleshoot the remote. Samsung’s remote-control troubleshooting guidance covers further checks.

5. Look for an event log, if the model has one
On some Samsung products manufactured in 2019 or later, an event log may be available under Support > About TV. Entries can identify a power-on reason such as a mobile app, sensor, Bluetooth wake, or CEC command. The feature is not available on every model, and menu paths vary. If present, use the log to guide which connected device or wake feature to isolate. See Samsung’s TV event-log guidance.
6. Arrange service if cycling continues
If the TV or projector continues turning off and on after checking its power connection and isolating remote, HDMI, and network triggers, contact Samsung support for service guidance rather than repeating generic resets. Samsung’s power troubleshooting page directs users to support when cycling persists.
