To charge a Galaxy phone wirelessly, first confirm that the exact model supports wireless charging. Then connect a compatible Qi charger to power and place the phone’s back in the center of the charging surface. If charging does not begin, check the model, reposition the phone and remove any case or accessory that could obstruct charging.
Check whether your Galaxy model supports wireless charging
Wireless charging is not available on every Samsung phone. Samsung’s US support guidance lists compatible Galaxy S, Note and Z models, and says Galaxy A, XCover and Tab devices are not compatible. Check the exact model in Samsung’s compatibility guidance or user manual rather than relying on the Galaxy name alone. Model lists can change, and availability may differ by region.

What charger do you need?
Use a compatible Qi-certified wireless charger; Samsung says it is sold separately. A pad or stand can work, but Qi compatibility by itself does not guarantee a particular charging speed. Samsung notes that third-party charger performance depends on its specifications and quality. How to charge the phone
- Connect the Qi-compatible charger to a power source using its required cable and adapter.
- Place the phone’s back in the center of the pad or stand, with the rear surface against the charging area.
- For a foldable Galaxy phone, close it and place it rear-side down on the charger.
- Check the phone for a charging indicator. If none appears, use the troubleshooting checks below.
If wireless charging does not start or keeps stopping
- Confirm compatibility: Check the exact phone model in Samsung’s support information or user manual.
- Check power and placement: Make sure the charger and cable are connected to power, then recenter the phone.
- Remove obstructions: Take off a thick or magnetic case and remove other accessories that might interfere, then try again.
- Check the charger: Confirm that it is compatible with the phone and that its specifications meet any fast-charging expectation.
- Still having trouble? Check for software updates and follow Samsung’s model-specific troubleshooting guidance. Charging behavior can depend on the device, charger and software.
Wireless charging your phone vs. Wireless PowerShare
Wireless charging uses a powered pad or stand to charge the phone itself. Wireless PowerShare is a separate feature on supported Galaxy models that lets the phone send power to another compatible device. Samsung Canada says the sharing phone needs at least 30% battery to turn PowerShare on; that threshold applies to sharing, not charging the phone on a pad. See Samsung’s Wireless PowerShare guidance.
