For a PDF already on a computer and a printer that is set up, printing from the computer is usually the easier route. Open the PDF, choose Print, check the preview and page options, select the printer and print. A Samsung Galaxy phone can be easier when the PDF is already on the phone and a compatible printer is available, but its print service or printer plug-in may need setup first. This is a workflow-based comparison of documented steps, not a timed usability test.
Which route is easier depends on where you start
There is no universal winner. The easiest option is usually the one that avoids moving the PDF or configuring a printer. If the file is already open on a computer and that computer can see the printer, the computer’s print dialog is a direct path. If the PDF is on your Galaxy phone and a compatible printer is already discoverable, printing from the phone can avoid transferring the file.

How to print a PDF from a Samsung Galaxy phone
- Open Settings and search for Printing. Turn on Default Print Service, or install the printer-maker plug-in if the printer requires one. Samsung notes that available services depend on printer compatibility.
- If the printer is missing, check its wireless setup. Use the available printer-search option, such as All printers, or add it manually by IP address if the device and printer support that option. Menu labels and capabilities can vary.
- Open the PDF in an app that supports printing. Samsung warns that not every app provides a print option.
- Choose Print from the app’s options or Share menu. Select the printer, review available paper-size, color and orientation settings, then print.
- To create a PDF file rather than paper, choose Save as PDF from the printer-selection screen and save the resulting file.
Samsung also describes a wired option: connect a USB printer using an OTG adapter and the appropriate USB cable. Check that the phone and printer ports and connection are compatible before buying an adapter. See Samsung’s instructions.
How to print a PDF from a computer
Windows: print a PDF in Microsoft Edge
Open the PDF in Edge and choose the print control, or press Ctrl+P. Check the preview and available scaling settings, such as fitting the page to the printable area, actual size or custom scaling, then select the printer and print. Windows: print from Microsoft Word
For a document open in Word, go to File > Print. Review the page preview and choose the current page or a page range, along with copies and other available options. Then select the printer and print. These controls are Word’s documented workflow, not a guarantee that every PDF app has the same interface. See Microsoft Support.

Mac: print or save as PDF
Open the Print dialog to select the printer, copies and pages. To make a PDF copy without using a physical printer, choose Save as PDF in the dialog. See Apple’s Mac printing guide.

What to check when the printer does not appear
- On a Galaxy phone: confirm that a print service is enabled or the required manufacturer plug-in is installed, and check wireless setup and printer compatibility. Samsung documents network and Wi-Fi Direct printing for its Galaxy S23-series manual, with availability dependent on the printer and setup.
- On a computer: check whether the printer is installed and available to the app. If it is missing or shown as unavailable, printer setup or troubleshooting is needed before the print dialog can complete the job.
