If your supported Galaxy phone is charging more slowly than expected, check Fast charging first. When it is off, fast charging may not activate. It is only one possible cause: a charge limit, incompatible charger or cable, temperature, or a port issue can also affect charging.
How to turn on Fast charging
- Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Turn on Fast charging, if the option appears.
- If you use wireless charging, check Fast wireless charging as well, if available.
The phone must support the feature, and menu names or locations can vary by model and software version. Samsung says Galaxy S23 series combines the former Fast charging and Super fast charging options into a single Fast charging setting. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance gives the current U.S. path.

Is it slow charging, or stopping at a charge limit?
If charging stops at 80%, 85%, or another set level, that is different from charging slowly. Check Settings > Battery > Battery protection and review the selected mode or limit. Samsung says Battery protection can limit the maximum charge level; changing the setting can allow charging to continue to a different endpoint. Keeping a limit may support battery care, so choose based on your needs rather than disabling protection by default. Samsung’s Battery protection guidance describes the feature.

Check the charger, cable, and connection
- Use a charger and cable compatible with your specific Galaxy model and its charging capabilities. Damaged or incompatible accessories may slow, interrupt, or prevent charging.
- Do not expect fast charging from a PC or standard USB device. Samsung notes that fast charging may not work with those connections.
- If the phone or charger is unusually hot, let the phone cool. Samsung says high device temperature can temporarily stop charging or reduce charging speed.
- Check the port for visible debris, but do not insert metal objects or liquids to clean it. If a moisture-detection alert appears, follow the phone’s instructions and wait until the port is safe to use.

If the setting is on but charging is still slow
After checking the setting and accessories, run the Cable charging diagnostic in Samsung Members if it is available on your device. If the issue continues, Samsung recommends contacting support or arranging a service inspection. A single setting change cannot resolve every charging problem, and charging behavior depends on the phone model, software, accessory, and conditions.
