Start with Samsung’s built-in font picker: open Settings, search for Font size and style, tap Font style, then choose Download fonts to browse Galaxy Store. This is Samsung’s documented no-root route, but it offers fonts from the store rather than a documented way to load any TTF or OTF file. Third-party tools such as zFont claim broader options on some Samsung versions; compatibility with a specific One UI 8 or 9 device is not guaranteed.
Use Samsung’s built-in font picker first
Samsung documents font-style and size controls in Settings, with additional fonts available through Galaxy Store. The exact labels and screens can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Samsung’s US support instructions describe the following route:

- Open Settings and search for Font size and style.
- Tap Font style.
- Choose Download fonts. Galaxy Store opens.
- Choose an available font and install it. Return to the font-style picker and select the installed font if it is not already active.
Samsung also explains the native settings flow in its Singapore support guide. Store availability and compatibility depend on the device and listing; do not assume every font is free or offered in every region. To adjust size or boldness, use the same Font size and style area. High-contrast fonts are a separate accessibility setting under Settings → Accessibility → Vision enhancements.
Can you install an arbitrary TTF or OTF without root?
Samsung’s documented instructions cover choosing fonts offered through Galaxy Store. They do not describe a native method for loading any arbitrary TTF or OTF file. If the font you want is not in the store, a third-party tool may offer another route, but that route has different support and compatibility limits.

What zFont claims, and what its instructions require
zFont is a third-party font utility, not a Samsung feature. Its FAQ says it supports some Samsung devices, allows importing fonts from Downloads, and can change fonts without root on supported brands and Android versions. It does not guarantee compatibility with every One UI 8 or 9 device or build.
In an announcement for zFont version 3.9.2, the publisher describes a method for Samsung One UI 8 and Android 16 that uses Shizuku, with root optional. That is a version-specific claim from the app publisher, not Samsung guidance or a universal requirement for every zFont release. See the zFont update announcement and follow the current instructions for your exact app version rather than assuming an older tutorial still applies.

One UI 8.5 and 9 reports are not a compatibility guarantee
Recent community and third-party guides describe methods for One UI 8.5 and 9, but they do not establish support across Samsung models, regions, or security updates. A Samsung Community user report is not official compatibility documentation. Likewise, an AndroidSage One UI 9 guide is a third-party procedure, not Samsung confirmation. These sources can point to approaches to investigate, but they cannot establish that a workaround will function on your particular phone.

Choose the route that fits your goal

Check before trying a third-party workaround
- Confirm your exact model, One UI version, Android version, and current software build in Settings; a report for another device or build is not proof of compatibility.
- Check the utility’s current instructions for that software version and app release. Requirements can change between releases.
- Understand that Shizuku is part of the publisher’s stated One UI 8 method for zFont 3.9.2; do not treat that requirement as universal to every version or device.
- Prefer Samsung’s picker if its available fonts meet your needs. It is the route Samsung documents and does not require a third-party workaround.
