Petcover Entry Pet Insurance: Australian Cover, Limits and Key Conditions

Petcover Entry is an Australian comprehensive accident-and-illness policy for cats and dogs, with advertised annual veterinary-fee limits of up to A$9,000 for cats and A$10,000 for dogs. Whether it suits a particular pet depends on its age, the certificate’s excess and co-payment, exclusions, any optional benefits selected, and the premium quoted for that pet. This is a review of published policy information, not a firsthand claims assessment.

What Petcover Entry covers in Australia

Petcover’s current Australian dog and cat product pages advertise annual veterinary-fee limits of up to A$10,000 for dogs and A$9,000 for cats. The insured value applicable to an individual policy is shown on its certificate. Petcover Australia product information

Petcover describes its “umbrella for life” feature as continuing eligible treatment for illness or injury throughout the pet’s lifetime when cover has no break. That is not a promise that every illness, injury, treatment, or bill will be paid indefinitely: cover remains subject to the policy’s terms, exclusions, limits, and the pet’s certificate.

The November 2024 policy wording also lists benefits such as alternative or complementary treatment within the veterinary-fee aggregate, dogs-only third-party liability, boarding fees, advertising and reward, and emergency repatriation. Some benefits are optional. The wording says an optional benefit applies only when it was selected, paid for, and recorded on the certificate. Because that wording is dated November 2024, check Petcover for the current version and confirm the benefit on your own certificate before relying on it. Petcover Australia policy wording

Published Entry specifications to check against your certificate

CHOICE’s public listing for Australian Petcover Entry gives these specifications. Its expert rating, cover score, out-of-pocket score, and full test results are not publicly available on that listing, so those cannot be used here as an independent verdict. CHOICE Petcover Entry listing

Specification Publicly listed detail
New-cover age 8 weeks to 7 years
Maximum annual benefit A$9,000 for cats; A$10,000 for dogs
Reimbursement 100% up to age 8; 80% from age 8; 65% from age 10
Excess A$175 stated excess
Waiting periods No waiting period listed for injury; 21 days for illness
Pre-existing conditions Not covered

These are CHOICE’s published comparison points, not a substitute for the policy documents that govern an individual policy. In particular, confirm how the age-based reimbursement applies to your pet and how the fixed excess and any percentage co-payment are calculated. Petcover says the certificate sets out the applicable fixed excesses and co-payments; its claims guidance describes a share excess or co-payment as the percentage retained from payable claim value after applicable fixed excesses or deductions. How the terms can affect an out-of-pocket bill

An annual cap, reimbursement rate, fixed excess, and percentage co-payment affect a claim in different ways. The cap limits the annual benefit; the reimbursement rate determines the share of an eligible bill payable under the applicable terms; and excesses or co-payments can leave the policyholder paying additional amounts. The exact calculation depends on the certificate and policy wording, so do not assume the listed A$175 excess is the only amount you may have to contribute.

For a comparison with another policy, check whether veterinary-fee limits are annual or condition-specific, when excesses apply, whether co-payments change with age, and whether relevant treatments have sub-limits. Obtain a current quote for the individual pet: no premium is established by the public specifications above, and a price cannot be inferred from the benefit limit.

Claims cannot be confirmed before treatment

Petcover Australia’s claims guidance says: “We are unable to advise whether we will cover and pay a claim before the treatment has been performed and the claim has been submitted.” The company explains that it needs to review the treatment and the pet’s full history. In practice, a policyholder should not treat a proposed procedure as pre-approved; the claim is assessed after submission under the applicable policy documents. Petcover Australia claims guidance

Waiting periods, exclusions, and eligibility

CHOICE lists a 21-day waiting period for illness and no waiting period for injury, and says pre-existing conditions are not covered. Petcover’s FAQ also says pre-existing conditions and signs that arise during the applicable waiting period are not covered. Exact waiting periods, exclusions, and eligibility rules are set out in the policy documents; Petcover says eligibility can depend on the pet’s current health, age, and breed. Read the wording and certificate for the specific pet rather than assuming every breed or condition is treated alike. Petcover Australia FAQ

Is Petcover Entry worth considering?

Entry may merit consideration if its published limits and accident-and-illness structure match the protection sought, and the individual quote and certificate are acceptable. The age-related reimbursement schedule and the possibility of both fixed and percentage contributions deserve particular attention when estimating what an owner might pay. Verify optional cover rather than assuming every listed benefit is included.

A sound comparison needs current documents and quotes for the same pet. Compare annual limits and sub-limits, reimbursement rates, excess and co-payment rules, waiting periods, pre-existing-condition and breed rules, optional benefits recorded on the certificate, and the claims process. Without comparable policy terms and representative quotes, there is no basis to call Entry the best pet insurance or declare it a winner.

Keep the Australian policy separate from New Zealand Entry

Petcover also uses the name “Entry” for a New Zealand product. It is a separate market offering with different terms; its limits and currency should not be applied to Australian cover. This review concerns Petcover Entry in Australia only. Petcover New Zealand product information
