If Samsung Notes did not appear on your iPhone, retrying phone setup may not be the answer: Apple does not document Move to iOS as a Samsung Notes importer, and Samsung says Smart Switch cannot transfer data to iOS. For notes you still need, export them from Samsung Notes as files, move those files to the iPhone, then keep them in Files or share them into Apple Notes.
First identify what failed
“Samsung Notes didn’t transfer” can mean three different things: Move to iOS completed but the notes are missing, an export or file share failed, or Smart Switch was expected to send notes to an iPhone. The fix depends on which route you used and where the notes are missing.

- If you used Move to iOS during iPhone setup, check whether other content transferred and whether the notes are absent from Apple Notes.
- If you exported notes, confirm that the exported files exist in Files or at the destination you chose.
- If you used Smart Switch, note that Samsung describes it as a transfer tool for Galaxy devices, not iOS devices.
Before troubleshooting, note the Samsung phone model, Android and Samsung Notes versions, iPhone model and iOS version, whether iPhone setup is complete, and whether the missing content is absent from Files, Apple Notes, or both. Menus can vary by software version and region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhy Move to iOS may not bring Samsung Notes into Apple Notes
Move to iOS is Apple’s Android-to-iPhone setup migration tool, but Apple’s documented list of transferable content does not identify Samsung Notes as a source whose notes become native Apple Notes. A successful device migration therefore does not establish that Samsung Notes’ private app data or note database was imported.

If Move to iOS stalled or stopped, Apple recommends keeping the app onscreen and leaving both devices alone until the iPhone progress bar finishes. Keep the phones close together and powered; an incoming call or switching to another Android app before completion can interrupt the transfer. Apple also advises turning off Android settings or apps that interfere with Wi-Fi, forgetting saved Wi-Fi networks if needed, restarting both devices, and turning off Android cellular data before trying again. These steps address an interrupted migration, not Samsung Notes compatibility. See Apple’s Move from Android to iPhone or iPad guidance.
If iPhone setup is already complete, do not erase it just to repeat the automatic migration without first considering the consequences. Apple’s documented Move to iOS flow is part of setup; manual file transfer is the alternative for moving exported notes afterward.

Export the notes from Samsung Notes
Samsung Notes can save an individual note as a PDF, Word document, PowerPoint file, image, or text file. Its Share action also offers Samsung Notes format. On the Galaxy, open the note, tap More options, choose Save as file, then select a format. Exact labels may differ by app version. Samsung documents these options in Use Samsung Notes features and settings.
Choose a format based on what you need from the note:

- PDF or image: a practical choice for handwritten pages, drawings, or complex layouts you mainly need to view. Inspect an export first; visual fidelity is not guaranteed.
- Text or Word: a sensible first test when you need editable text. Check formatting and embedded content, which may not match the original.
- Samsung Notes format: available through Share, but Apple’s documented iPhone Notes workflow describes sharing files from Files, not importing Samsung’s native notes database.
Samsung’s cited instructions establish individual-note save and share formats, not a bulk export of every note at once. For a large collection, test the process on a few representative notes before deciding how to handle the rest.
Move the exported files to the iPhone and share them into Notes
Transfer the exported files using a computer or a file-sharing route you already use, such as a cloud drive. Apple’s documented iPhone approach is to share a supported file from Files into Notes:

- On the iPhone, locate the exported file in Files. If it is not there, confirm where the transfer app or computer saved it.
- Touch and hold the file, then choose Share.
- Choose Notes, select a new or existing note as the destination, and save.
- Open the destination note and check the result, including any pages or attachments that matter.
Apple describes this as adding a file to a note. A PDF can be viewed and annotated in Notes, but that does not mean its contents have been converted into fully editable native note text. For details, see Apple’s Import or share notes and files to the Notes app.
For editable text or many notes, consider importing on a Mac
Apple documents importing .txt, .rtf, .rtfd, .html, .enex, and .md files into Notes on Mac. Each imported text file becomes a new note; when you import a folder, its folder structure may be preserved. This route requires a Mac and files in a supported format. After importing into an iCloud Notes folder, allow time for iCloud sync to finish before checking the iPhone.

The Mac import route is distinct from the iPhone Files-sharing method: Apple documents the former for supported text formats on Mac and the latter for sharing files from Files on iPhone. Neither is documented as a direct Samsung Notes database migration.
If a shared note or attachment still does not appear
First verify the exported file is present in Files and that you saved the share to the intended Notes folder. If the destination is an iCloud Notes folder, check the account and sync setting on the iPhone:
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap iCloud, then Notes.
- Make sure Sync this iPhone is enabled.
- Restart the iPhone and check Notes again.
These are Apple’s checks for iCloud notes that do not appear; they do not guarantee a repair for a failed third-party file share. Apple’s guidance is at If you don’t see your iCloud notes in the Notes app (published March 21, 2025).

What Smart Switch can and cannot do
Samsung explicitly states: “Smart Switch allows you to transfer content to a Galaxy device. It cannot transfer data to an iOS device.” If you expected Smart Switch to send Samsung Notes to an iPhone, switch to the export-and-file-transfer workflow instead. Samsung’s statement appears in its Transfer content from an iOS device with Samsung Smart Switch article.
