Samsung My Files can copy or move files to a Network storage destination. To connect it to a PC or NAS, the host must already share a folder on a network the phone can reach. Samsung documents the file-transfer steps; the manual SMB setup below comes from a Samsung Members community post and may differ by device or app version.
What Network storage means in My Files
My Files is pre-installed on most Galaxy devices and manages files in supported locations, including device storage and other locations such as cloud services and SD cards. Samsung also lists Network storage as a destination when copying or moving files. The exact labels and menus can vary by model and software version. Samsung’s My Files guide and its file-transfer instructions describe these functions.

Network storage is not a share that My Files creates on your computer or NAS. The host must have a shared folder configured, and the phone must be able to reach it. A NAS is optional: an existing PC with a properly configured share may be enough.

- Open My Files and browse to the relevant file category or location.
- Select one or more files, then choose Copy or Move.
- Choose Network storage as the destination.
- Browse to the intended folder, or create a folder in the destination flow if needed, then tap Copy here or Move here.
Copy leaves the original file where it is and creates another copy at the destination. Move transfers the file and removes it from its original location. For important files, consider copying first and confirming the destination copy is accessible before deleting the original yourself.
Connect to a PC or NAS using community-reported SMB steps
A Samsung Members community how-to posted August 9, 2020 describes manually adding an SMB network drive. This is community guidance, not a current Samsung compatibility guarantee; the path and available options may not match every Galaxy device or My Files version.

The community post uses port 445 and describes a Windows shared folder or NAS as the host. Samsung’s official pages cited here do not establish current SMB-version support, device eligibility, or authentication modes. Check the current documentation for your phone, Windows version, or NAS rather than assuming that every SMB server will work.

Prepare the shared folder and account
Before adding the connection, configure a shared folder on the PC or NAS and make sure an account has permission to access it. The community post gives general Windows-sharing guidance, but host-side menus vary by Windows version and NAS vendor; follow the host maker’s official instructions for setting up sharing and permissions. Use a dedicated account with only the access needed for the share rather than exposing your primary computer login.

If the share does not connect
These are basic checks inferred from the community-reported connection fields, not Samsung-certified diagnostics.
- Confirm the PC or NAS is online and that the phone and host can reach one another on the same local network.
- Check that the server address and share name are correct.
- Verify that the entered account and password are valid and that the account has permission to open the shared folder.
- Review the host’s sharing configuration and any network or firewall settings that could block access.
- If the SMB option or labels are missing, check your device’s current My Files version and model-specific Samsung documentation; the community steps do not establish universal availability.
Using a share away from home: keep SMB off the public internet
A local share being available over Wi-Fi does not mean it is reachable over the public internet. A Samsung Members moderator discussing remote access warned against exposing port 445 on the WAN and suggested using a VPN. That is community security guidance, not a Samsung security bulletin. Do not forward SMB port 445 directly to the internet; consult your router or NAS documentation for a supported secure remote-access method, such as a properly configured VPN.

Network storage or OneDrive?
These are different destinations. An SMB share uses a PC or NAS and depends on that host and the network being reachable. OneDrive is a cloud service that Samsung documents as a My Files transfer destination; account and service conditions apply. A cloud account can be more convenient for access from different locations, while a self-hosted share leaves the host and access configuration under your control.
