Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOn a Samsung laptop, press Windows + Shift + S to capture a selected part of the screen. Drag over the area you want, then select the notification to open the screenshot for editing or saving. The capture may also be copied to the clipboard, so press Ctrl + V in Paint or another app if you miss the notification.
Take a screenshot of part of the screen
- Press Windows + Shift + S together. Samsung identifies this as a quick way to capture a selected area. Samsung Brazil’s screenshot instructions note that commands and their locations can vary by laptop model and Windows version.
- Choose a capture shape if the toolbar offers one, then select the area, window or screen you need. Samsung’s guidance lists rectangular, freeform, window and full-screen captures. Samsung Uzbekistan’s instructions describe these options.
- Select the notification that appears to open the capture, then edit or save it in the available capture window.
If you do not see a notification, try Ctrl + V in Paint, a document or another app that accepts images. A screenshot can be on the clipboard without having been saved as a separate file.

Use the Print Screen key instead
Look for a key labeled Print Screen, PrntScrn, PrtScn, PrtScr or PrtSc. The label and placement depend on the keyboard. Samsung’s laptop and compact-keyboard guidance pairs Fn + Print Screen for this method.
- Press Fn + Print Screen if your keyboard has a Print Screen key.
- Open Paint or another app that accepts images and press Ctrl + V.
- Save the image from that app. The key combination may copy the screenshot to the clipboard without opening a visible capture window.
For a specific Samsung laptop’s key layout, check the keyboard markings and the manual for that model. Samsung describes Fn Lock as a way for hotkeys to work without holding Fn, but its general hotkey guidance does not establish a universal Print Screen mapping. If the combination fails, verify the device’s keyboard instructions rather than assuming every Galaxy Book uses the same keys. Samsung’s Fn Lock guidance explains the general behavior.

Screenshot or screen recording?
A screenshot is a still image; recording creates a video. Samsung says its Screen Recorder app is available only on Windows 11 Galaxy Book5 and Galaxy Book4 PCs running One UI 6.0 or later. Eligible users can search for Screen Recorder from the taskbar and start recording from its toolbar. This is a separate, limited-availability video feature, not a requirement for screenshots. Samsung’s Screen Recorder information describes the supported devices and steps.
