How do I change the Samsung Keyboard settings?
On Samsung’s documented path, open Settings → General management → Samsung Keyboard settings. From there, you can adjust options such as layout, languages, typing assistance, and toolbar behavior. Menu names and available controls can shift between software versions; searching Settings for “Samsung Keyboard” is a practical alternative when the path differs.

To choose which installed keyboard opens by default, go to Settings → General management → Keyboard list and default → Default keyboard, then select an available input method. Samsung’s Galaxy setup guide documents the settings and default-keyboard controls.

The toolbar puts input tools near the text field. Depending on the device, app, enabled services, and available downloads, it may show emoji, stickers, GIFs, voice input, and a shortcut to keyboard settings. Expand it to reveal more options, which may include search, translation, Samsung Pass, clipboard, text editing, keyboard size, or Writing assist. These are possibilities, not a fixed set guaranteed on every Galaxy device.

In Samsung Keyboard settings, you can turn the toolbar off. Samsung also describes rearranging toolbar icons by dragging them; some tools may depend on the app or an additional service. See Samsung’s keyboard setup instructions and toolbar support page for device-specific guidance.
How do I make the keyboard smaller?
Samsung documents standard, one-handed, floating, and split keyboard layouts. The right choice depends on your screen and how you type:
- One-handed: shifts the keyboard to one side to make keys easier to reach with a thumb.
- Floating: turns it into a movable keyboard window you can reposition.
- Split: separates the keys, which can be useful on a wide display or in landscape orientation.
- Standard: returns to the regular full-width layout.
Look in Samsung Keyboard settings or the keyboard’s toolbar for layout and size controls. Depending on your device, settings may also include transparency, theme, font size, custom symbols, and high contrast. Try one change at a time so it is clear which arrangement works better for your hands and screen. Samsung notes that available controls can vary by device and software version in its toolbar instructions and keyboard guide.
How do I change the keyboard language?
Open Samsung Keyboard settings and select Languages and types to enable or download a keyboard language. When more than one language is enabled, Samsung says you can switch between them by swiping left or right on the space bar. The available layouts and language tools depend on the languages supported for your device.

How do I turn on voice typing?
- Open a text field so the Samsung Keyboard appears.
- Tap the microphone icon. If it is not visible, expand the toolbar or check the keyboard’s toolbar settings.
- Select or set up the voice-input service if prompted, grant requested permissions, then speak.
Samsung lists both Samsung voice input and Google Voice Typing as options. Its support page states that “Samsung voice input is only available when using the Samsung Keyboard”; Google Voice Typing is a separate option. Recognition language, permissions, and the service selected affect what is available. Samsung provides offline voice language packs for supported languages, but that does not mean every language or setup supports offline dictation. See Samsung’s voice-input instructions.
How do predictive text and autocorrection work?
Samsung Keyboard settings include controls for predictive text, emoji and sticker suggestions, auto replace, text corrections, and text shortcuts. Other typing options can cover capitalization and spacing. You can enable or disable controls individually rather than changing the whole keyboard:
- If unwanted corrections change words you meant to keep, review auto replace and text-correction settings.
- If suggestions are distracting, adjust predictive text or emoji and sticker suggestions.
- If you type the same phrase often, set up a text shortcut where supported.
Samsung’s keyboard guide describes these typing controls. Their exact labels and availability may vary by software version.
Are Galaxy AI writing tools available on every Samsung Keyboard?
No. Samsung limits Galaxy AI writing features to eligible devices and software. Its current support guidance says One UI 6.1 is required for Galaxy AI features on select devices, and that Chat assist was renamed Writing assist in One UI 7. Eligibility is model-specific, so check Samsung’s Smart typing and Galaxy AI support page for the current device list rather than assuming the feature is included on every Galaxy phone or tablet.

Samsung also notes that some AI functions may require a Samsung account, an internet connection, and a minimum amount of text. Enhanced or third-party AI functions may have different terms or fees. Availability and requirements can change with device, region, and software updates.
Can I use an S Pen to type?
Samsung Keyboard includes a handwriting mode that converts writing into typed text. Samsung Support says, “The Handwriting mode feature allows you to write text using your finger or a S Pen.” Open the expanded toolbar to find handwriting mode when it is available. Samsung qualifies S Pen handwriting and S Pen-to-text features as device-dependent, so check compatibility for your exact Galaxy model before choosing a pen; not every S Pen works with every Galaxy device.

How do I reset Samsung Keyboard?
If predictions or keyboard behavior have become inconvenient, Samsung provides separate controls for resetting settings and erasing personalized data. Erasing personalized predictions removes learned words; other controls can erase personalized touch-recognition data or clear the cache.

- Open Settings → General management → Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Find the reset or personalization controls. Labels can differ by software version.
- Choose the specific action you need: reset keyboard settings, erase personalized predictions, erase personalized touch-recognition data, or clear cache.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
Samsung says resetting keyboard settings does not remove downloaded languages. Erasing personalized predictions is a separate action, so review the confirmation carefully if you want to keep learned words. See Samsung’s reset instructions.
Which input method should I use?
There is no single best option for every Galaxy owner. Compare input methods against what you need and what your device supports:
- Compatibility: check your Galaxy model and One UI version before relying on a specific keyboard feature.
- Languages and dictation: confirm that your preferred language is available, including offline packs if offline voice input matters.
- Tools: consider whether you need handwriting, translation, or AI writing features, and verify that each is available on your device.
- Personalization: decide whether keeping learned predictions matters before erasing them or resetting settings.
- Availability: installed keyboards, services, and features can vary by region and app.
Samsung Keyboard, Google Voice Typing, and separately installed keyboard apps are different choices: voice typing can be an input service rather than a replacement keyboard. Samsung’s guides document the built-in options, but they do not establish a performance winner among third-party keyboards.
