Start with the built-in Galaxy settings if they already give you the look or behavior you want. Use Samsung Good Lock when a specific module offers a useful control you cannot find there—and first check that the module supports your phone and software version. There is no universal winner: the right choice depends on what you want to change and how much extra setup you are willing to manage.
What is the difference?
Built-in Galaxy customization means the controls available on your phone through its standard settings and interface. Good Lock is a Galaxy Store app that adds focused customization through separate modules. Samsung describes it as providing “powerful customization features for Samsung Galaxy devices.” Its listing says it is available for Samsung devices running Android 8.0 or higher, but warns that some devices may not be supported. That broad Android requirement does not guarantee that the app—or a particular module—will work on every Galaxy device. Check the Good Lock Galaxy Store listing for current availability.

Samsung’s April 2025 One UI 7 coverage illustrates the kinds of changes available through modules. These are documented examples, not a guarantee that every feature works on every current Galaxy model.

Home Up: home-screen layouts
Home Up adds home-screen customization, including a DIY home screen and additional layout controls. Whether its options are useful depends on the particular layout change you want and what your phone already supports.

Theme Park: interface colors and appearance
Theme Park can customize selected interface elements, including keyboard, Quick Panel, and messaging colors. Samsung’s One UI 7 coverage also described icon and folder customization.
Sound Assistant: more control over audio
Sound Assistant offers finer volume increments, per-app volume settings, volume-button behavior controls, and appearance options for the volume panel. Samsung reported more than 21 million cumulative downloads for Sound Assistant in its April 11, 2025 article. That is a historical download total, not a count of active users or a measure of quality.

One Hand Operation+: gesture shortcuts
One Hand Operation+ lets you assign gesture shortcuts to frequently used functions. Samsung reported more than 16 million cumulative downloads for the module in the same April 11, 2025 article; that figure is historical and does not indicate how many people still use it.
Wonderland: animated wallpapers
Wonderland can create animated wallpapers for the lock and home screens, with independently customized screens and layered visual elements. Samsung described the module as enabling users “to create animated wallpapers for the lock and home screens” in its April 15, 2025 coverage. Read Samsung’s One UI 7 Good Lock overview for its documented examples. In the same April 11, 2025 article, Samsung reported more than 17 million cumulative Theme Park downloads; that is also a historical download total, not an active-user or quality measure.

How to choose between built-in settings and Good Lock
- Name the change you want. Be specific: a different home-screen layout, interface colors, per-app volume, gesture shortcuts, or an animated wallpaper are clearer goals than “more customization.”
- Check the phone’s existing controls. Look in Settings and consult Samsung’s documentation for your device. Menu names and available controls can differ by model and One UI version; the available documentation does not establish a complete built-in feature inventory for every Galaxy.
- Find a Good Lock module that matches the gap. Install Good Lock and use the relevant module only if it supplies the control you need. A module is an additional setup step, so there is little reason to add one when the built-in option already does the job.
- Verify compatibility for your device and region. Check the Galaxy Store listing and the module’s own page for your phone, software version, and regional availability. The app’s minimum Android requirement alone is not enough to confirm module support.
- Recheck after major updates. Module support can shift during a new One UI release, especially in beta. Verify compatibility again rather than assuming an older guide still applies.
Why compatibility needs a fresh check
Good Lock support is not fixed across every device and software release. A July 24, 2026 Samsung Members post reproducing a Good Lock development-team note about the One UI 9 beta listed One Hand Operation+, Sound Assistant, Keys Cafe, Theme Park, Wonderland, and other modules as available in that beta. It described QuickStar, LockStar, ClockFace, NavStar, NotiStar, Home Up, MultiStar, and Game Booster+ as in development. The note said the list could change, so it should be read as a snapshot of beta support—not the final One UI 9 support list. - Choose built-in controls first if they already achieve the change you want and you prefer not to add another app or module.
- Try Good Lock if a specific module provides a useful control missing from your standard settings and is supported on your device and software version.
- Wait or use built-in controls if the module you want is unavailable or its support is unclear for your current release.
The practical distinction is not that one route is inherently better: built-in controls are the straightforward starting point, while Good Lock is an optional way to pursue particular customizations. The examples above come from Samsung’s 2025 coverage; confirm present-day feature availability on your own Galaxy before relying on them.
