Microsoft says Samsung Gallery will stop syncing directly with OneDrive on September 30, 2026. After that date, new users will not be able to link the apps, and OneDrive-stored photos will no longer appear in Samsung Gallery. This is an end to the direct Gallery integration, not a notice that cloud-stored media will be deleted. The replacement is a distinct OneDrive app workflow: Camera backup can upload new photos and videos, but users need to check that it is configured and working.

How to keep backing up new Galaxy photos
- Open OneDrive on your Galaxy phone and locate its camera-backup setting. The exact menu labels can vary by app version.
- Check the account and backup status. Confirm OneDrive is signed into the account where you want the photos stored, and review whether camera backup is enabled and uploading.
- Verify the files in OneDrive. Use the app or onedrive.com to confirm that recent photos and videos have arrived. Do not rely on their appearance in Samsung Gallery as proof of a successful upload after the integration ends.
- Keep a separate copy if you want one. You can select photos or videos in Samsung Gallery and download them. An external drive is one possible destination for a manually maintained local copy; it does not provide automatic cloud backup.
Microsoft identifies OneDrive Camera backup as the way to continue backing up new media. The available notice does not establish that it reproduces every part of Gallery sync, such as album organization or the same in-Gallery browsing experience.

What happens to photos already in OneDrive?
According to Microsoft, media already stored in OneDrive remains accessible through OneDrive and onedrive.com after the cutoff. It will stop appearing inside Samsung Gallery. If you want the files on your phone or another local device, download the items you need from Gallery before the change or access them through OneDrive and save a copy.

Microsoft Q&A reports that Gallery sync and Camera backup can overlap during a changeover, potentially uploading eligible photos again. This is a possible troubleshooting issue, not a confirmed outcome for every account. If you see duplicates, compare the files and dates in OneDrive before deleting anything.

Was OneDrive really more popular than expected?
The claim that a survey found OneDrive more popular than readers might expect cannot be verified from the available information: no survey publisher, field dates, sample or result is identified. Microsoft’s transition notice confirms the end of the integration, but it does not establish a popularity ranking. The practical takeaway is independent of that claim: check your backup settings and make sure you can access the files you care about outside Samsung Gallery.
