Use Samsung Gallery’s Erase shadow tool to remove a cast shadow from an existing photo: open the image, go to Edit → More settings → Object eraser → Erase shadow, review the result, then save it if it looks right. Menu names and placement can vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Remove a shadow with Object eraser

Open the photo in Gallery.

Tap Edit, shown as a pencil icon.

Open More settings, then choose Object eraser.

Tap Erase shadow and let Gallery process the image.

Compare the edited image with the original. Save only if the result suits the photo.

Samsung describes Shadow Erase as automatically distinguishing shadows to remove from shadows to retain. That is Samsung’s description of the feature, not a guarantee that every image will be corrected perfectly; Samsung says results can differ with the photo and shooting situation. Samsung India Support last updated its Object Eraser guidance on September 23, 2026.

If Erase shadow is not in the menu
Some Gallery interfaces surface the feature as an edit suggestion instead of, or in addition to, the Object eraser route:

Open the photo and swipe up to view its editing suggestions. Look for Erase shadows.

On some interfaces, open the photo’s Details using the i control and check for suggestions there.

Follow the on-screen prompt; depending on the interface, you may be asked to tap or draw around an area or adjust a slider. Samsung’s examples show these suggestion routes, but do not establish that they appear on every Galaxy device. Samsung UK Support and Samsung Australia Support illustrate Gallery suggestions.

What to check when the tool is missing

Check both the Object eraser menu and Gallery’s edit suggestions; the feature may be presented differently.

Update your device software and Gallery app, then look again.

Keep in mind that Samsung warns labels and layouts can vary by device model, software version, and app version. Its support materials do not provide a complete compatibility list covering every Galaxy model, carrier, and region.

Review the edit before saving
Inspect the area where the shadow was and nearby edges or textures. Because the outcome depends on the image and shooting conditions, compare it against the original rather than assuming the shadow will disappear cleanly. If you want to preserve the unedited image, work from a copy and keep the original unchanged.

This process edits a shadow already present in a photo. Preventing a shadow while taking a new picture is a separate camera and lighting problem.
