The most dependable way to connect a laptop to a Samsung Freestyle projector is with a video cable: connect the laptop’s HDMI output to the projector’s Micro HDMI input. If your laptop uses USB-C, first confirm that its port supports video output; the Freestyle’s USB-C port is for power, not laptop video. Wireless options depend on the projector model and region.
Choose the right cable for your laptop
Samsung says, “The Freestyle uses a Micro HDMI port.” For a laptop with an HDMI video output, use a cable with standard HDMI at the laptop end and Micro HDMI at the projector end. Samsung identifies a Micro HDMI-to-HDMI cable as an option for connecting an external device.

A USB-C connection can work only if the laptop’s specific USB-C port supports video output. Check the laptop manufacturer’s specifications or manual before choosing a Micro HDMI-to-USB Type-C cable or an appropriate video adapter. Samsung lists a Micro HDMI-to-USB Type-C cable as a possible option depending on the external device, but that does not mean every USB-C port can send video.

Keep the projector’s ports straight
The projector’s Micro HDMI port is for external-device video. Its USB-C port is for power, according to Samsung’s Freestyle setup guide; plugging a laptop into that USB-C power port is not the video connection.
Connect the laptop by cable
- Check the laptop output and projector model. Identify the laptop’s video-capable port and consult the manual for your exact Freestyle model. Samsung says the cable needed depends on the external device.
- Connect the correct cable. For an HDMI-output laptop, plug standard HDMI into the laptop and Micro HDMI into the projector. For USB-C, proceed only after verifying that the laptop port supports video.
- Turn on both devices. Make sure the cable connectors are fully seated.
- Select the connection in the projector menu. Open Menu > Connected Devices > Connection Guide and use the relevant device category to guide setup. Samsung documents this path in its Connection Guide instructions.
Samsung Canada also describes the Micro HDMI cable options in its device-connection guidance, which applies to Canadian projectors and settings.

Consider wireless connection only if your model supports it
Wireless compatibility is not universal across Freestyle models or regions. Samsung Canada lists AirPlay 2 requirements of iOS 12.3 or later or macOS 10.14.5 or later, and notes that AirPlay may not be supported for every projector model or geographical area. The reviewed Samsung laptop-connection instructions do not establish wireless compatibility across all Freestyle generations or provide universal Windows laptop mirroring steps. For a newer model, verify its own specifications rather than assuming features match an earlier generation. For example, Samsung’s Freestyle+ specification lists one Micro HDMI input for that model specifically.

If the projector shows no picture
- Confirm the connector type: the projector end must be Micro HDMI, not Mini HDMI.
- Check the laptop port: if using USB-C, verify that the particular port supports video output.
- Reseat the cable: ensure both ends are fully connected.
- Check the selected connection: use the projector’s Connection Guide at Menu > Connected Devices > Connection Guide and make sure the connected device or input is selected.
- Consult the device manuals: if the image still does not appear, follow troubleshooting for the exact laptop operating system and Freestyle model rather than assuming the same steps apply to every setup.
