Google documents how Gallery Cloud Sync works and how to disconnect it, but those instructions do not confirm a crash fix or identify a Samsung update that addresses one. If you are checking the feature on your phone, use Gallery’s settings and treat reports of a fix as unconfirmed unless Samsung publishes a matching release note.
What is—and is not—confirmed about the update
The claim that a new Samsung Gallery update introduces a Gallery Cloud Sync mitigation is unverified. The consulted sources do not include a Samsung release note or support statement naming an affected Gallery version, the issue addressed, or the mitigation.
A September 18, 2026 Samsung Members post describes one Galaxy A53 owner seeing the setup interface crash after installing Gallery Cloud Sync version 1.6.09.31. It is an individual report: it does not establish how common the problem is, its cause, or whether a later update fixes it. Samsung Members report
A September 15, 2026 report from 9to5Google mentioned Samsung Gallery version 15.9.01.7 and the Google Photos backup integration, alongside the end of direct OneDrive integration on September 30, 2026. What Gallery Cloud Sync does
Google describes the feature as a way to back up photos and videos from Samsung Gallery to a Google Account. Synced media can be accessed on Samsung devices and in Google Photos. The documentation does not say that Samsung Gallery becomes a browser for every item in a user’s Google Photos library. Google Photos Help: Sync your Samsung Gallery with your Google Account
Who can use the sync feature
Google says Gallery Cloud Sync requires a compatible Samsung device, Android 13 or later, and a personal Google Account. Google Workspace accounts and supervised accounts are not supported. Availability may vary by account type, device model, or region, so check whether the option appears in Gallery on your own device rather than assuming it is available on every Samsung phone. How to turn off sync or disconnect Gallery
Stop new backups
Turn off sync in Samsung Gallery’s settings. This stops new backups; photos and videos already backed up remain in your Google Account and can still be accessed in Google Photos. End the account connection
Turning off sync in Gallery alone does not remove the linked app or end data sharing. To disconnect it, open your Google Account’s linked-app settings and remove Gallery Cloud Sync. What to check if setup crashes
If Gallery Cloud Sync crashes during setup, the available evidence does not establish a specific cause or a confirmed fix. Check Gallery and your device’s software update settings for updates available to your phone, but do not assume an update is the reported mitigation unless its Samsung release notes identify the relevant issue.
