The iPhone 18 Pro is the more versatile choice on paper for zoom photography, thanks to its dedicated telephoto camera; the Galaxy Z Fold8 is the more adaptable device for reading, browsing, and watching on a large screen. Samsung lists the standard Fold8 at 201 grams, but the Apple specification cited here does not provide the iPhone’s weight, so there is no verified numerical weight comparison to make.
Which one fits your priorities?
Choose between two different kinds of advantage: a conventional phone with a broader listed camera system, or a phone that opens into a substantially larger display. The Fold8 gives you a 5.5-inch cover screen for folded use and a 7.6-inch main screen when open. The iPhone 18 Pro keeps the familiar single-screen phone format.

- For distant subjects and zoom framing: the iPhone 18 Pro has a dedicated telephoto camera and Apple-listed 4x optical and 8x optical-quality framing.
- For a bigger phone screen: the Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner display is the distinguishing feature, particularly for reading, browsing, and video.
- For a numerical weight decision: Samsung lists the standard Fold8 at 201 grams; the Apple specification cited here does not state the iPhone 18 Pro’s weight.
How do their camera systems differ?
Galaxy Z Fold8: wide and ultra-wide, without a dedicated telephoto
Samsung lists the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 with a 50MP wide camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Tom’s Guide also notes that the standard model has no telephoto zoom lens. That means its listed rear-camera setup does not offer a dedicated telephoto camera for bringing distant subjects closer.

Apple specifies three 48MP rear cameras: main, ultra-wide, and telephoto. Its specifications list 4x optical telephoto and 8x optical-quality telephoto framing, with a 16x overall optical-quality range. For someone who often photographs faraway subjects or wants more framing options without moving, that is the stronger camera specification.

Megapixels do not establish which phone takes better photographs overall. The available coverage does not include a controlled, direct camera comparison between the Fold8 and iPhone 18 Pro, so it cannot establish an overall image-quality winner.
What adjacent camera coverage can—and cannot—tell you
TechRadar’s comparison of the iPhone 18 Pro with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, not the Fold8, found both detailed in good light and described the iPhone’s rendering as more natural and Samsung’s as more vibrant. This may help explain the rendering styles in that comparison, but it is not evidence of how the Fold8 compares with the iPhone 18 Pro.

What does the Fold8’s weight mean for everyday use?
Samsung lists the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 grams. The Fold8 Ultra is a separate model listed at 215 grams; that figure should not be attributed to the standard Fold8. Apple’s cited iPhone 18 Pro specification does not state the phone’s weight, so a grams-based head-to-head claim would be unsupported.

The Fold8 can be used folded on its 5.5-inch cover screen or opened to its 7.6-inch display. Tom’s Guide reviewer describes the wide front display and large inner screen as useful for video, browsing, and reading. This two-screen format is a different daily trade-off from the iPhone’s conventional single-screen design; it does not by itself establish which phone is easier or more comfortable to carry.

The Fold8’s larger open screen
When folded, the Fold8 offers a 5.5-inch cover display for phone-style interactions. Open it, and the 7.6-inch main display gives more room for reading, browsing, and watching video. That flexibility is valuable if you regularly want a larger canvas without carrying a separate tablet.
Foldable construction and IP48
Samsung lists the Fold8 with an IP48 rating. An IP rating describes tested resistance to specific ingress conditions; it is not a promise that a device is waterproof. A foldable hinge and inner display are also part of the Fold8’s design. The available sources do not establish that either phone lasts longer or is more durable overall, so those points should not be inferred from the rating or form factor alone.
Quick Recap
Which should you choose?
- Pick the iPhone 18 Pro if dedicated telephoto coverage and the listed zoom framing are more important to you than having an opening display.
- Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you expect to make regular use of its larger inner screen for reading, browsing, or video, and can accept that the standard model lacks a dedicated telephoto camera.
- Compare handling in person if possible if weight and folded-versus-open use are decisive. The verified specifications here do not supply both phones’ weights, and the review observations are not a controlled usability comparison.
