The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip8 suit different priorities: choose the Fold7 for a larger screen when opened, or the Flip8 for a compact clamshell design. They are also from different generations: Samsung introduced the Fold7 in 2025, while the Flip8 belongs to the 2026 Z Series 8 lineup.

The screen and battery figures come from Samsung pages for different markets, so the regional source is identified for each model. The camera specifications shown are not a like-for-like image-quality test.

What changes between a Fold and a Flip?

Fold7: more room when opened

The Fold7 opens like a book to an 8-inch main display and also has a 6.5-inch cover display. That larger inner canvas makes it the more suitable choice of these two if you want extra screen space for viewing or multitasking. In return, it has the book-style folded form rather than the Flip’s compact clamshell shape.

Flip8: a smaller folded phone

The Flip8 folds in half like a clamshell. Its 6.9-inch main display is smaller than the Fold7’s when open, while its 4.1-inch cover display supports quick interactions without opening the phone. Its practical distinction is the smaller folded form, not a larger workspace.

Camera and battery differences

Samsung lists three rear cameras for the Fold7: a 200 MP wide camera, 12 MP ultrawide, and 10 MP telephoto. For the Flip8, Samsung’s Canada comparison lists a 50 MP wide and 12 MP ultrawide; its U.S. product page promotes a 50 MP camera. These specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos: megapixel counts alone are not a quality comparison, and the cited information does not provide comparable camera-test results.

The listed battery capacities are 4,400 mAh for Fold7 and 4,300 mAh for Flip8. Capacity alone does not establish which lasts longer in everyday use; no comparable battery-life test result is established here.

U.S. price difference: useful reference, not a matched quote

Model and configuration Samsung U.S. price reference Basis
Galaxy Z Fold7, 256GB unlocked $1,999.99 Samsung MSRP sheet effective March 2026
Galaxy Z Fold7, 512GB unlocked $2,119.99 Samsung MSRP sheet effective March 2026
Galaxy Z Fold7, 1TB unlocked $2,419.99 Samsung MSRP sheet effective March 2026
Galaxy Z Flip8 From $1,199.99 Samsung U.S. product page accessed October 4, 2026; before trade-in, storage configuration for this starting price not stated

Comparing the Fold7’s 256GB MSRP with the Flip8’s current starting-price listing gives an apparent $800 difference. It is not a guaranteed current retail-price gap: one figure is from a March 2026 MSRP sheet and the other is a starting price shown before trade-in, with no matching Flip8 storage configuration established. Samsung says MSRP is subject to change without notice; promotions, carrier terms, storage and retailer stock can also affect checkout prices. Compare the same storage capacity, market, carrier status and offer basis before deciding.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Fold7 if the larger 8-inch inner display is your priority and you want a phone that opens into a broader viewing or multitasking canvas. It is the older-generation model in this comparison.
  • Choose the Flip8 if compact folded carry is more important than having the largest open screen, and a 6.9-inch main display is enough for your use.
  • Check current pricing before buying if cost is decisive: the figures above have different dates and price bases, so they do not settle the live, like-for-like checkout difference.
