What changes in the screens?
Main display
Samsung’s Singapore comparison lists an 8.0-inch main display for both models, so the Fold8 Ultra does not have a larger main screen by that comparison. Samsung’s global specifications give the Ultra’s inner display as QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 2,504 × 2,256 pixels, 422 ppi, with an adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate. Diagonal measurements include rounded corners, so the visible area is smaller than the stated diagonal suggests.

Cover display
The same Samsung Singapore comparison lists a 6.5-inch cover screen for both phones. For the Fold8 Ultra, Samsung specifies FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 1,080 × 2,520 pixels, 422 ppi, and adaptive 1–120 Hz. Regional specifications may differ; confirm the exact configuration sold in your market. Sources: Samsung Global Newsroom specifications and Samsung Singapore comparison.
Battery and everyday portability
Samsung’s comparison materials list a 5,000 mAh battery for the Fold8 Ultra and 4,400 mAh for the Fold7. Samsung claims up to 27 hours of video playback for the Ultra; that is a manufacturer claim, not a matched independent test against the Fold7. Tom’s Guide has published its own Fold8-series battery testing, but those results are publication-specific and should not be treated as a universal runtime figure. See Tom’s Guide’s Fold8-series review and testing.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Samsung lists both phones at 215 g in its Singapore comparison, so the published weight does not distinguish them. The Fold8 Ultra measures 72.8 × 158.4 × 8.9 mm folded and 143.2 × 158.4 × 4.1 mm unfolded; Samsung notes that the unfolded thickness excludes the main-screen frame. These specifications provide size context, not a hands-on assessment.

Samsung identifies the Fold8 Ultra processor as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The available comparison information does not establish a full processor comparison or matched benchmark results against the Fold7, so the processor name alone cannot show how much faster the Ultra is in practical use.

Samsung’s launch announcement describes a 200 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultrawide camera for the Fold8 Ultra. Those megapixel counts describe hardware, not image quality. No matched independent camera test against the Fold7 is established here, so they do not support a reliable claim about which phone takes better photos. See Samsung Newsroom Japan’s July 22, 2026 launch announcement.
Which phone makes more sense?
Choose the Fold8 Ultra if
- You value its 5,000 mAh published battery capacity and larger cover display, and the current price after eligible offers fits your budget.
- You want the newer model’s published processor and camera hardware, while recognizing that the cited information does not establish matched performance or camera-test advantages.
Choose the Fold7 if
- You want to spend less at the regular U.S. listed price and do not need the Ultra’s higher published battery capacity.
- You are satisfied with the cover-screen size listed in Samsung’s comparison and prefer to make the decision based on current offers rather than the Ultra name.
Compare the same storage capacity and sales conditions. A discount, trade-in, or carrier deal can narrow or reverse the regular listed-price gap, so check the actual eligible offer rather than assuming every buyer pays the full difference.

Availability and buying checks
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is a released product, not a rumor. Samsung Japan announced reservations beginning July 23 and sales beginning August 7, 2026; Samsung’s U.S. store also lists the phone for sale. Availability, regional specifications, and promotions vary by market. Before ordering, verify the storage, unlocked or carrier configuration, final price, and offer eligibility on the seller’s current page. Samsung also says the Ultra does not include a charger in the box, so check the package contents for the version sold in your region.
