An OS-upgrade term describes major Android version updates. For the Z Fold6, Samsung explicitly states seven years of Android OS upgrades. For the Z Fold7, its product page specifies seven OS versions; that is the published measure to use for that model. Google’s Pixel policy groups state a duration for both OS and security updates.

Security updates
Security-update support is a separate commitment: it concerns security fixes, not a promise that every monthly release will arrive on every phone at the same time. Samsung’s security page describes monthly, quarterly, and biannual firmware releases for selected models. The Z Fold7 currently appears in the monthly scope, while Samsung cautions that update availability and timing can change with model, market, and network provider.

When the support clock starts—and when patches arrive
Google counts its Pixel policy from the device’s first availability on the Google Store in the US. Samsung’s cited Fold6 statement counts from global launch. These are different starting points, so comparing “seven years” alone does not establish identical end dates.
A support window also does not tell you the day a particular handset receives a patch. Google says Pixel update delivery depends on the device and carrier and may take a few weeks. Samsung likewise says security-update availability and timing vary by model, market, and provider. A monthly schedule in Samsung’s scope means a listed device is in that schedule; it is not evidence that every owner receives each update simultaneously worldwide.

How to make a fair comparison
- Name the generation. Compare the original Pixel Fold with the specific Galaxy Z Fold generation in question, or compare newer models such as Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Z Fold7. Do not treat “Pixel Fold” or “Galaxy Z Fold” as a single timeless policy.
- Compare like with like. Check OS-upgrade duration or version count separately from security-update duration and schedule. For example, the Z Fold7’s seven OS versions and Samsung’s “up to” security-support wording come from different statements.
- Check the clock and delivery qualifications. Note whether the term starts at US Google Store availability or Samsung global launch, and account for carrier, market, and model rollout differences.

What these policies do—and do not—show
The published terms establish how long manufacturers say eligible models will receive OS or security updates, with the model-specific distinctions above. They do not establish how quickly a vulnerability is fixed, how quickly a patch reaches a particular retail handset, or which brand has better security. Those questions require separate evidence about vulnerabilities and real-world delivery; support duration by itself cannot answer them.
