What the Galaxy Z Flip8 offers
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip8 on August 6, 2026. Sales began August 7 in select markets, with worldwide availability expanding afterward, according to Samsung Mobile Press. Exact availability and pricing depend on market.

- Cover display: 4.1 inches, according to Samsung UK.

- Rear camera and battery: Samsung lists a 50 MP wide camera and a 4,300 mAh battery.
Samsung calls this its thinnest and lightest Flip yet. That is the company’s comparison across its Flip range, not an independent assessment of every competing phone. Its stated thickness should also be read as a device specification, not a measure of how much pocket space the phone occupies when folded.

How large is the screen in everyday use?
The 6.9-inch figure describes the main screen’s full rectangular diagonal. Samsung’s specification gives 6.8 inches when measured with rounded corners; the viewable area is smaller still because of the rounded corners and camera opening. The large inner display is therefore best understood as a generous unfolded screen in a phone designed to fold shut, rather than as a 6.9-inch uninterrupted rectangle.

The 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover screen is intended for quick interactions without opening the phone. Samsung describes access to apps, information, actions and assistance from that display. The exact experience can depend on the software, region and supported apps; the product description establishes advertised capabilities, not independent verification of how every app behaves.
What can you do with the cover screen and cameras?
Samsung promotes FlexWindow interactions and FlexCam, as well as Super Steady with Horizontal Lock and Dual Recording. These features suggest a design aimed at checking information and capturing video while the phone is folded or positioned hands-free. They are manufacturer-advertised features; the available review figures here do not establish how well they perform in real-world shooting.

The listed 50 MP wide camera is a resolution specification, not a complete measure of image quality. The evidence available here does not establish low-light performance, zoom quality or a comparative camera verdict, so buyers should not infer those results from megapixels alone.

These scores support describing the phone as powerful on benchmark workloads. They do not, by themselves, establish everyday responsiveness, sustained performance under long workloads or a direct advantage for every buyer. The brightness figure is Tom’s Guide’s peak measurement, not a guarantee that the screen maintains that level in every setting.
What do the battery and materials tell you?
Samsung lists a 4,300 mAh battery, but capacity alone does not show how long the phone lasts between charges. No battery endurance result is established here, so it would be misleading to promise a particular runtime.

Samsung specifies Armor Aluminum, Corning Gorilla Glass on the cover screen and a smoother Armor FlexHinge. These are material and design details, not evidence of drop resistance, hinge longevity, repairability or long-term durability. No such results are established in the sources cited here.

Tom’s Guide reported US launch prices of $1,199 for 256GB and $1,399 for 512GB. These are launch-era US prices, not a current quote or a price applicable in other countries. Current pricing, stock and regional storage options are not established here, so check Samsung or a local retailer before buying.

In its review, Tom’s Guide judged that the design, camera hardware and battery life remained almost the same as the prior model, while noting a $100 increase in US launch price. That is the publication’s comparison and review judgment; it is useful context for weighing an upgrade, not a universal verdict on value.
Software update status depends on the model and region
Samsung’s update page for model SM-F776B lists Android 17 and an update entry dated September 21, 2026. Samsung notes that software changes can vary by model, country and carrier. Who should consider the Galaxy Z Flip8?
The Flip8 is most compelling for someone who specifically wants a phone that folds into a clamshell, with a large inner display available when unfolded and a cover screen for quick interactions. Samsung’s 180 g specification and compact folding format address portability; the cover-screen and camera features offer reasons to use that form factor beyond simply making the phone smaller.

It is a less straightforward choice for someone whose decision depends chiefly on proven battery endurance, camera comparisons, durability evidence or today’s best local price. Those outcomes are not established by the cited specifications and review measurements. For an upgrade from the previous Flip, Tom’s Guide’s view that several core areas changed little and the US launch price rose $100 is a reason to compare the actual differences and current local offers before deciding.
