The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a good phone if you specifically want a compact clamshell that unfolds into a large-screen smartphone. Its 4.1-inch cover display, flexible camera positioning and long stated software-support period make the foldable format more useful than a novelty. It is a less convincing choice if your priorities are long battery life, optical zoom or unrestricted app use on the outside screen.
This review is about the regular Galaxy Z Flip7, Samsung’s 2025 model—not every phone called a Samsung Flip, and not the separately positioned Galaxy Z Flip7 FE.

What makes the Galaxy Z Flip7 different?
The central benefit is not a single specification: it is being able to close the phone into a smaller shape and still use a meaningful screen without opening it. Unfolded, the Z Flip7 has a 6.9-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with adaptive 1–120Hz refresh. Its 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display supports 60Hz or 120Hz. Samsung notes that the viewable area on both displays is smaller than the full rectangular diagonal because of rounded corners and the camera opening. Samsung’s specifications describe the hardware; how useful the cover screen feels depends on the tasks and apps you use.
Folded size and everyday handling
Samsung lists the phone at 75.2 × 85.5 × 13.7 mm when folded and 75.2 × 166.7 × 6.5 mm when unfolded, with a weight of 188 g; dimensions and weight may vary by region. Folding it in half makes it shorter in a pocket or bag, though it is thicker when closed than a conventional slab phone. The hinge also lets you prop the phone at an angle for hands-free framing or use its rear cameras for selfies.
Cover-screen trade-off
The cover display is large enough to make the folded phone interactive, but it does not automatically turn the outer screen into a full substitute for the main display. Android Central describes app flexibility as limited, while TechRadar found that apps can run on the cover screen but with some difficulty. If your buying decision depends on using particular apps without unfolding the phone, check those apps on the current software experience before committing.
How good is the battery life?
Battery life is a notable compromise, especially for heavy users. Samsung specifies a 4,300mAh battery and claims up to 31 hours of video playback under its own test conditions. That manufacturer playback figure is not a prediction of typical mixed-use endurance. Independent reviews describe battery life as average or disappointing relative to expectations; Android Central says it is similar on average to the Flip6 despite the larger battery.
The Guardian reported about 36 hours between charges in its mixed 5G/Wi-Fi test, with roughly six hours of active screen use, while noting that heavy-use users would generally need to charge nightly. That is one reviewer’s result under those conditions, not a guarantee for every owner. Gaming, camera use, mobile signal, brightness and other habits can change runtime.

The available reviews do not support treating the battery as a reason to buy this model; frequent high-load gaming or camera use makes the trade-off more important.
Rank #2
- Model name: Galaxy Z Flip7
- Operating system: Android 16
- Display Size: 6.9 inches
- Cellular technology: 5G
- Storage Capacity: 512GB of internal storage provides ample space for apps, photos, videos, and files without worrying about running out of memory
Are the cameras good enough?
The rear setup comprises a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, according to Samsung’s specifications. There is no dedicated telephoto camera, so this is not the most flexible arrangement for people who regularly want optical zoom. TechRadar also calls out the absence of telephoto hardware.
The folding design adds shooting options rather than extra lenses. You can use the rear cameras for self-portraits and prop the phone up for timed shots or video. That can be genuinely convenient for particular styles of photography, but it does not replace a telephoto camera if distant subjects are a routine need.
How durable is it, and how long will it get updates?
IP48 rating
Samsung states an IP48 rating for water resistance and dust protection. The rating is not a promise that the phone is waterproof, immune to dust or protected from drops and impact. Treat it as a stated resistance rating, not as permission to expose a foldable to damaging conditions.

Software support
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip Product Environmental Report states seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. The report’s date is not stated in the source. This is Samsung’s support policy commitment, not a guarantee that an individual phone will remain physically functional for that entire period.
What the evidence does not establish
Published sources do not provide a quantified long-term hinge lifespan or a cross-market failure rate for the Z Flip7. Do not treat the IP rating or software-support promise as evidence that the device cannot be damaged or will last a particular number of years.
What do independent reviews say?
Reviews agree that the Z Flip7 is a polished foldable with a useful form factor, but they put different weight on its compromises. Android Central calls it an incremental upgrade with strong build quality and core features, while emphasizing that performance, battery life and cover-screen app flexibility have not made a major leap. Its recommendation is strongest for buyers who value Samsung’s foldable build and support and do not expect to run full apps on the cover screen often.
TechRadar is more enthusiastic about the foldable experience and enlarged cover display, based on a two-week primary-phone test. It also notes battery concerns and the lack of telephoto hardware. The Guardian’s review describes the phone as good-looking and fun but iterative, and supplies the battery observation discussed above. These reviews are useful perspectives, not a single standardized test across identical conditions.
Should you buy the Z Flip7 or a different kind of phone?
Compare the phone against alternatives by identifying which compromise matters most to you. Reviews place Motorola’s Razr Ultra among its major foldable competitors, but published comparisons do not establish a universal winner or current local price. A conventional flagship such as the Galaxy S25 Plus may be a better fit if you value battery and camera versatility over folding small.

| What matters most | Question to ask about the Z Flip7 | How to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Foldability | Will closing the phone in half meaningfully improve how you carry or use it? | Compare a Motorola Razr Ultra or Razr 60 Ultra, or a conventional Galaxy S25 Plus. |
| Cover display | Are its supported interactions enough, or do you need broad app access without unfolding? | Try the apps you rely on with the current cover-screen software before buying. |
| Battery | Do you need dependable endurance through a heavy-use day? | Compare independent tests performed under similar conditions and workloads. |
| Camera flexibility | Is a main and ultra-wide setup sufficient, or do you use optical zoom? | Consider a conventional flagship with telephoto hardware if zoom matters. |
| Price | Is the folding form worth the price you would actually pay? | Check the current unlocked or carrier price and promotions in your region; deals change. |
TechRadar listed a US starting price of $1,099 for 256GB in its 2025 review. That is a launch-era review price, not a current quote. Check the price and storage configuration available from your local retailer or carrier rather than using that figure as today’s market price.
What should you know before ordering?
Samsung’s US specification sheet says the 25W charger and wireless charger are sold separately. Box contents can vary by market and seller, so verify the specific listing. If you already own a suitable charger, buying another may not be necessary.
If you are considering a case, confirm that it is made for the Galaxy Z Flip7 and do not assume that a case guarantees hinge or screen protection. Fit and protection depend on the specific product and its substantiated claims.
