1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no universal winner: choose a Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 if you want Android, a large AMOLED display and an S Pen included; choose the M4 iPad Air if iPadOS and Apple’s apps matter more. One naming detail matters: Samsung’s 2026 launch announcement lists the 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and 12.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12+, not a base “Galaxy Tab S12.” The Ultra is the closest high-end, large-screen comparison, but it is larger than either iPad Air. Apple’s current M4 iPad Air comes in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. [Samsung; Apple]
Which tablet should you choose?
- Choose Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra if Android, a 14.6-inch workspace, AMOLED, microSD expansion and an included S Pen are the priorities.
- Choose Galaxy Tab S12+ if you want Samsung’s Android tablet setup and AMOLED screen in a smaller 12.6-inch device.
- Choose 11-inch iPad Air if you want the M4 iPad Air experience in Apple’s more portable size.
- Choose 13-inch iPad Air if iPadOS and Apple apps are decisive and you want more workspace than the 11-inch model offers.
The best fit depends on your preferred apps, operating system, screen size and accessory budget—not on a direct performance comparison. The manufacturer claims below compare each product with its own predecessor; they do not establish which tablet performs better against the other.

How do the screen sizes and displays compare?
The S12 Ultra is 14.6 inches diagonally, the S12+ is 12.6 inches, and the M4 iPad Air is available at 11 or 13 inches. That makes the Ultra a substantially larger tablet than either Air. If you are comparing large-screen workspaces, the 13-inch iPad Air is the more relevant Apple counterpart, although it is still smaller.

Which operating system and apps suit your workflow?
The S12 series runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and Galaxy AI, according to Samsung. The iPad Air runs iPadOS 26, and Apple highlights tablet apps including Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro. Start with the software you rely on: check that the exact apps and features you need are available on your preferred platform and in your region.
Samsung says Photoshop for Tablet will be available first through Galaxy Store for at least six months beginning October 7, 2026, and that Adobe may make it available through other app stores afterward. Availability can change, so verify the current app-store listing before choosing a tablet around that app.
What do the performance and battery claims actually show?
Samsung says the S12 series’ 3nm processor delivers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance and 17% improved GPU power compared with the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Apple says the M4 iPad Air is up to 30% faster than the M3 iPad Air and up to 2.3 times faster than the M1 iPad Air; Apple says its performance tests were conducted in January and February 2026. These are separate manufacturer comparisons against earlier products, not a head-to-head benchmark.

Samsung’s stated battery-life figures are up to 23 hours for the S12 Ultra and up to 21 hours for the S12+, under Samsung’s test conditions. They are vendor claims, not directly comparable battery-test results against the iPad Air. Your actual battery life will depend on use and settings.
What comes with the tablet, and what costs extra?
Samsung says an S Pen is included with both announced S12 models. Apple says the M4 iPad Air supports Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Magic Keyboard, but lists them as separate accessories. Samsung also names its Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim as accessories. Check model compatibility and local accessory pricing when comparing the cost of a complete setup.
Compare the total configuration you would actually buy: tablet storage, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, stylus, keyboard and protective case. A tablet’s starting price is not the cost of a keyboard-and-stylus setup, and an included S Pen does not make Samsung’s keyboard accessories part of the bundle.

How do price, availability and support compare?
Apple’s US launch announcement lists M4 iPad Air Wi-Fi starting prices of $599 for 11-inch and $799 for 13-inch models; Wi-Fi + Cellular starts at $749 and $949, respectively. These are Apple’s US launch prices, not necessarily current sale prices. Samsung’s cited global launch announcement does not give one worldwide S12 price, so a fair comparison requires checking local retail prices for matching storage and connectivity configurations.
Samsung states that both S12 models support up to seven generations of OS upgrades and security updates, and describes them as IP68 water- and dust-resistant. Apple’s cited launch announcement does not provide a corresponding quantified software-support duration, so the available figures do not support a like-for-like support-length comparison.
Samsung says S12 availability begins October 7, 2026, in select markets. Availability and retail prices may vary by country and retailer; confirm the exact model, configuration, stock and price before ordering.
Make the decision around your priorities
- Screen first: Pick the S12 Ultra if the largest screen here is what you need; consider the 13-inch iPad Air if you want a large workspace within iPadOS.
- Platform first: Pick iPad Air for an iPadOS workflow or Apple apps you depend on; pick an S12 for Android and Samsung’s One UI environment.
- Pen use: The included S Pen makes the S12’s stylus setup simpler at purchase. For iPad Air, account for the separately sold Apple Pencil you want.
- Storage and configuration: Samsung lists microSD support up to 2TB. Match the storage and Wi-Fi/cellular configuration you intend to use before comparing prices.
- Final cost: Add the keyboard, stylus and case you actually need, then compare current local prices rather than relying on a launch starting price.
Samsung’s and Apple’s launch statements describe each company’s intended audience and product positioning, not independent proof of superiority. The right purchase is the one that fits your apps, screen preference and complete setup.
