Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallSamsung Galaxy SmartTag2 can help you locate belongings using Bluetooth, Samsung’s opt-in Galaxy-device finding network, and—on compatible phones—nearby UWB direction finding. It is not a GPS tracker or a universal Android accessory: you need a Samsung account and SmartThings Find, and some features have stricter device and software requirements.
Does SmartTag2 work with your phone?
Samsung’s requirements differ by feature, so “compatible” does not mean every feature works on every supported Galaxy device.

| Use | What Samsung specifies |
|---|---|
| Product compatibility | Samsung’s UK specifications list Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 9 or later. A Samsung account and registration in SmartThings Find are required. Samsung UK product specifications |
| SmartThings Find service | Samsung’s US launch announcement specifies a Galaxy smartphone or tablet on Android 11 or later, at least 3 GB of free RAM, SmartThings Find opt-in, and a logged-in Samsung account. Samsung US launch announcement |
| UWB directional finding | Requires a UWB-enabled Galaxy phone; Samsung’s launch material specifies Android 11 or later for full functionality. Check your phone’s current UWB and software support rather than relying on Samsung’s 2023-era device list. |
These are distinct layers: a device may meet the product-page compatibility description without supporting UWB, and Samsung’s launch announcement gives additional requirements for its Find service. Availability can vary by country, device, and OS version. Confirm current regional support and your phone’s UWB capability before buying.

Within Bluetooth range
SmartTag2 uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Samsung lists a BLE distance of up to 120 m, while its launch announcement qualifies that figure as an unobstructed range. Walls, furniture, vehicles, interference, and other real-world conditions can reduce it; treat 120 m as a best-case specification, not a guaranteed indoor radius.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
When the tag is nearby, use Search Nearby for help locating it, or choose Ring Your Tag to make it sound. With a UWB-enabled Galaxy phone, Compass View can provide arrows and distance guidance. Samsung warns that obstacles such as drawers, walls, or cars can reduce accuracy.
Outside your phone’s Bluetooth range
SmartThings Find can use its Find Network: opted-in nearby Galaxy devices may detect the tag and report its location. This is a crowdsourced network, not GPS or satellite tracking built into SmartTag2. A location update depends on participating Galaxy devices being near the tag, so updates are not assured everywhere or continuously. Samsung describes the range and network in its launch announcement.

How do you set up SmartTag2?
- Sign in to a Samsung account on a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet and make sure SmartThings Find is available for your device and region.
- Register the tag in SmartThings and SmartThings Find, following the prompts in the app. Samsung requires registration in SmartThings Find for finding features.
- Attach the tag to the item you want to locate, then test Ring Your Tag and Search Nearby while it is close by.
- If your phone supports UWB, try Compass View nearby. If the option is absent, check the phone’s UWB support, Android version, app availability, and regional feature support.
How long does the battery last?
SmartTag2 uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery. Samsung estimates up to 500 days in Normal Mode and up to 700 days in Power Saving Mode. These are estimates from Samsung’s internal tests using a pre-release tag and the included battery, not independent field averages; actual life varies with use, device, and battery maker. See Samsung’s test qualification.

| Mode | Samsung’s stated maximum | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Mode | Up to 500 days | Standard feature availability. |
| Power Saving Mode | Up to 700 days | Some functions, including Search Nearby and IoT control, can be disabled; basic Bluetooth finding remains. |
Use a fresh CR2032 replacement when needed and follow the tag’s battery-replacement instructions. Longer stated battery life in Power Saving Mode comes with reduced functionality.

Can SmartTag2 get wet?
Samsung rates SmartTag2 IP67 based on laboratory submersion in freshwater up to 1 m deep for up to 30 minutes. That rating is not a promise of protection in every situation. Samsung advises against beach, pool, or soapy water, and says water resistance can diminish over time. Details are on the Samsung UK product page.
What does Lost Mode do?
Lost Mode uses NFC to show contact details and a message that you registered in advance. For those details to appear, the person who finds the tag needs an NFC-capable device and an internet connection. It is a way to make returning an item easier, not a guarantee that someone will scan the tag or be able to view its information.

These measures describe specific protections and alerts, not a guarantee that all unwanted tracking will be prevented. Samsung’s interview with the SmartTag2 product team

Can SmartTag2 control smart-home devices?
Samsung says SmartTag2 can control registered SmartThings IoT devices while the tag is connected to your mobile device. This is a separate use from locating belongings and depends on compatible registered devices and connection to your phone.
