Samsung Galaxy’s Sensors Off feature is a Developer options quick-settings tile. When enabled, it blocks camera requests, silences microphone input for apps, and stops sensor events delivered through Android’s SensorManager. It is not a hardware disconnect: Android documents that phone calls can still use the microphone, and availability and behavior can vary by device and software version.
What Sensors Off does—and what it does not promise
Android’s reference implementation controls access through the camera, audio, and sensor system services. While the tile is on, camera requests can fail, microphone input to apps is silenced, and sensors managed through SensorManager stop delivering new events. The feature is broader than a camera-and-microphone switch because it also affects supported motion and other SensorManager sensors.

This is a service-level restriction, not a guarantee that the phone powers down every sensor or blocks every vendor-specific access path. Android notes that manufacturers can customize the feature, extend it to additional sensors, or omit it. Samsung does not promise identical support or menus across every Galaxy model.
How to find Sensors Off on a Galaxy phone
1. Enable Developer options
- Open Settings and tap About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Tap Build number seven times. If prompted, enter your screen-lock credentials.
- Return to the main Settings menu. Developer options should appear near the bottom.
These steps follow Samsung Canada’s support instructions; menu wording can differ by model and software version. Samsung cautions that Developer options are advanced settings, are not generally needed by ordinary customers, and are not supported by Samsung for ordinary use. Changing options can affect phone performance.

2. Add the Sensors Off tile
- Open Settings and enter Developer options.
- Tap Quick settings developer tiles.
- Turn on Sensors off.
- Open Quick Settings and tap the Sensors Off tile to activate or deactivate it.
Android documents this tile path, but Samsung does not guarantee that every Galaxy build exposes it. Quick Settings layout also depends on One UI: Samsung says the panel experience changed beginning with One UI 7, while devices on One UI 6.1.1 or lower use a combined notifications-and-Quick-Settings layout. If the tile is not immediately visible, inspect the panel’s edit controls; exact gestures and labels vary.
What changes while the tile is enabled
| Area | Expected effect | Practical impact |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Android reports an error and closes an active camera device; new camera requests also receive an error. | Camera apps and in-app camera features may stop working until Sensors Off is disabled. |
| Microphone for apps | Microphone requests can return silence. An active recording may be silenced rather than stopped with an error. | Recording, voice input, and other app audio capture may not work as expected. |
| SensorManager sensors | Continuous and on-change sensors stop delivering events; new trigger events are not generated, though events already in progress complete. | Auto-rotation, motion-aware behavior, proximity-dependent features, and other sensor-based app functions may pause or fail, depending on the device and app. |
Android says that existing sensor listeners can resume receiving normal data after Sensors Off is turned off. A sensor flush can complete without returning new sensor data while the feature is active.

Does Sensors Off block the microphone during phone calls?
No. Android explicitly documents a call exception: “Telephony functions do not use AudioPolicyService and still have access to the microphone during phone calls.” Do not treat Sensors Off as a hardware-level microphone disconnect or as a guarantee that calls cannot use the mic.
Should you use Sensors Off or Samsung’s privacy controls?
Choose based on what you need to restrict. Sensors Off is the wider control: it can affect camera, app microphone input, and supported SensorManager sensors. Samsung’s privacy settings are more targeted when your concern is camera, microphone, or a particular app.

- Camera app shows an error: turn off the Sensors Off tile, then try the camera again.
- Voice input or recording is silent: disable the tile and retry; app microphone requests may receive silence while it is active.
- Rotation or motion features pause: disable the tile to restore normal sensor event delivery.
- You cannot find the tile: confirm that Developer options is enabled, check its Quick settings developer tiles menu, and inspect Quick Settings edit controls. The feature may not be exposed by your model or software build.
If you enabled the tile only temporarily, switch it off when finished. If you changed other Developer options, review those changes separately rather than resetting unrelated settings.
