The Samsung Galaxy S26 is the smaller, lighter phone with a dedicated telephoto camera and a higher IP68 dust and water rating. The Moto g max 5G has the larger screen and a much bigger battery on its published specifications. Price is the hardest part to compare, because the two phones have no matching market, retailer or date in the figures available.
Which Moto g max this comparison covers
The Moto g max 5G is Motorola’s moto g max, which Motorola’s support documentation lists with 5G Sub-6 connectivity. Motorola states that specifications can vary by market, and its regional product pages show that configurations and feature claims differ. The hardware figures below come from Motorola’s US support sheet, which lists a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration. If you are buying in another country, check that market’s own product page before assuming the same screen, camera, memory or band support.

Display: a larger diagonal, a different panel
The moto g max’s listed diagonal is about 0.4 inches larger than the S26’s 6.3 inches. The panels also differ. Samsung uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X, an organic light-emitting panel, while Motorola lists an LCD. Both claim a 120Hz maximum refresh rate. A bigger LCD gives more screen area; the S26’s panel and smaller body suit one-handed use and a pocket-sized phone. Neither spec sheet provides brightness or colour measurements, so a visual judgment has to wait for hands-on review.

Cameras: optical telephoto versus digital zoom
Megapixel totals do not capture the main difference. The Galaxy S26 has a 10MP telephoto lens that delivers 3x optical zoom, so the magnification comes from a separate lens. The moto g max, as listed on Motorola’s support sheet, has a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide, with zoom of up to 8x that is digital. Digital zoom crops and enlarges the image, so detail falls off faster at high magnification. If you shoot distant subjects often, the S26’s telephoto lens is the stronger listed feature. If you mostly shoot wide scenes and daylight photos, the two camera systems are closer on paper.
Battery and charging
The moto g max has the clear advantage on listed capacity, at 7,000mAh against the S26’s typical 4,300mAh. The playback figures, 63 hours for Motorola and 30 hours for Samsung, cannot be compared directly. Each company uses its own test method and usage assumptions, and neither figure is a shared benchmark.

Charging works differently. Samsung’s launch material describes wired charging to 55% in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter and a 3A USB-C cable. Motorola’s 30W TurboPower depends on a compatible charger. Samsung also says the S26 box does not include a charger, so you should budget for one if you buy the S26.

Durability ratings
IP68 and IP64 describe different protection levels. IP68 is the stronger dust and water rating on paper. Motorola’s MIL-STD-810H rating is a separate US military-standard test for environmental conditions, and it is not a direct replacement for an IP rating. Because the two companies use different test standards, you should read each rating as a statement about its own test rather than as a single ranking.

Price: why the figures cannot be subtracted
The prices below come from different markets, retailers and dates, so they cannot be combined into one price gap.
- Samsung US, unlocked Galaxy S26: $899.99 for 256GB and $1,099.99 for 512GB on Samsung US’s purchase page. Samsung notes that the charger is not included. Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
- Motorola India, moto g max (6GB/128GB): a displayed offer of ₹25,999 against a ₹42,999 MRP on Motorola India’s product-family listing. The discount percentage on that page can change.
- Motorola India launch announcement: a ₹26,999 price with sale starting August 20, 2026. That was a launch-period figure, and it is not a current price as of October 2026.
The only way to compare the two phones on cost is to pick one country, one retailer and one memory configuration on the same day. The current sourced figures show that prices differ by market, not which phone is cheaper overall.

Which phone fits which buyer
- Choose the Galaxy S26 if you want a lighter phone at 167g, an IP68 rating, optical telephoto zoom, and Samsung’s software and 12GB RAM configuration.
- Choose the moto g max if battery endurance and screen size matter most, and you can check that the local model supports your network bands.
- Check network bands first in either case, because band support is market-specific and the spec sheets above do not settle it for every country.
What this comparison can and cannot tell you
Every figure here is a manufacturer specification or a manufacturer’s or retailer’s listed price. No independent battery, camera or performance test was used. Treat the battery and camera claims as starting points, and compare them with reviews that test both phones under the same conditions before you commit to a purchase.
For Galaxy S26 specifications, use Samsung’s own pages. For moto g max specifications, use Motorola’s support sheet for your country. Samsung’s February 25, 2026 announcement describes the S26 series as built around Galaxy AI, which is Samsung’s own corporate description rather than an independent assessment.
