The Samsung Galaxy S26 starts $300 below the Apple iPhone 18 Pro in the United States: $899 versus $1,199 at their stated starting prices. The iPhone’s confirmed highlights include a 6.3-inch OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh, an A20 Pro chip and a 48MP main camera with variable aperture. Samsung’s base US configuration is listed with 256GB storage and 12GB memory, and it adds a Privacy Display feature. Which is the better buy depends on storage and carrier terms as well as whether you prefer iOS or Android.
US price difference: Galaxy S26 is $300 cheaper at starting prices
The standard Galaxy S26 has a reported US starting price of $899, while Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199. The $300 gap is calculated from those published starting prices; it is not a guaranteed transaction-price difference. Taxes, storage configuration, unlocked status and carrier promotions can change what you pay. The figures are US prices and should not be applied to other markets. The Associated Press reported Samsung’s price; Apple announced its US price.

| Comparison | Samsung Galaxy S26 | Apple iPhone 18 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| US starting price | $899 for the base model, reported by AP | $1,199, announced by Apple |
| Base storage | 256GB in the US configuration listed by TechRadar | 256GB |
| Memory | 12GB in the US configuration listed by TechRadar | Not stated in the cited Apple specifications |
| Display details established here | Privacy Display feature reported by AP; comparable size and refresh-rate figures not stated in these sources | 6.3-inch OLED; ProMotion up to 120Hz |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in TechRadar’s reviewed configuration; Samsung chipset can vary by market | A20 Pro |
| Main camera detail established here | Not stated in these sources | 48MP Fusion camera with variable aperture |
Samsung’s $899 figure applies to the standard S26, not the Galaxy S26+ or Ultra. AP lists those models at $1,099 and $1,299 respectively. Apple’s $1,199 figure is for iPhone 18 Pro, not the Pro Max, which Apple lists at $1,299. TechRadar’s regional price listings also illustrate that prices differ outside the US.

Which specifications matter most?
Storage and memory
TechRadar lists the US Galaxy S26 base configuration with 256GB of storage and 12GB of memory. Apple offers iPhone 18 Pro in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options. Compare the prices of the storage tier you actually need: the two base prices do not tell you the cost of matching a higher-capacity configuration. The cited Apple specifications do not state an iPhone memory figure, so a RAM comparison cannot be made from these sources.
Display and privacy
Apple specifies a 6.3-inch OLED display with ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. For the Galaxy S26, AP reports a Privacy Display mode intended to limit side-angle viewing. That feature is not necessarily equivalent to using a separate privacy screen protector, and the sources here do not establish a like-for-like display size or refresh-rate comparison.

Processor and regional variants
Apple identifies the iPhone 18 Pro chip as A20 Pro. TechRadar reports Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Galaxy S26 configuration it reviewed, but Samsung chipsets and configurations can vary by market. Check the precise regional model or SKU before treating that processor as universal or using it to predict performance. The available evidence does not establish a controlled head-to-head speed test.

Apple describes the iPhone 18 Pro main camera as a 48MP Fusion camera with variable aperture. That is a hardware specification, not proof of better photos or video than the Galaxy S26. The cited sources do not provide comparable independent camera results or enough Galaxy S26 camera detail for a feature-by-feature verdict.

Battery and charging
Apple says the eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback in its own testing, with results varying by conditions. Treat this as a manufacturer test claim, not a direct comparison with Galaxy S26 battery life: equivalent independently measured figures are not established here.
Software and AI
The phones use different operating systems: iPhone 18 Pro runs Apple’s iOS, while Galaxy S26 is an Android phone. The sources describe expanded AI features for Samsung’s S26 lineup, but do not provide a matched feature-by-feature assessment against Apple’s intelligence features. Choose based on the platform and services you already rely on, rather than assuming a listed AI feature means one phone is broadly more capable.

How to compare carrier offers with retail prices
Carrier promotions can lower the advertised monthly payment, but they do not automatically make a phone cheaper overall. AT&T’s comparison page describes offers tied to eligible plans, qualifying trade-ins and credits applied over 36 months, with restrictions. Before switching or upgrading, compare the amount due, required plan cost, trade-in eligibility, credit schedule and what happens if you leave before credits finish. AT&T’s comparison page is one example of conditional carrier pricing.
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S26 if the lower US entry price matters most, Android suits your apps and services, or Samsung’s Privacy Display feature is useful to you. Confirm the local model’s chipset and configuration before buying.
- Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if you prefer iOS, want Apple’s stated 6.3-inch 120Hz-capable OLED display and 48MP variable-aperture main camera, or need its larger published storage range up to 2TB.
- Compare a specific storage tier and carrier deal if you plan to finance or trade in a phone. Starting prices alone do not establish which will cost less under your eligibility and plan terms.
Neither the specifications listed here nor the available test claims establish a universal winner for speed, camera quality or battery life. Those comparisons require matched independent testing.
