At US launch, their starting prices were $1,299.99 and $549.99 respectively—a $750 gap. That is a comparison of announced US launch prices, not current retailer prices or a worldwide price difference. The Ultra’s key hardware advantages on paper are its higher-resolution display, more advanced processor and dedicated telephoto cameras; the A57 offers a large 120Hz display at a substantially lower launch price.

How much more does the S26 Ultra cost?
At US launch, the S26 Ultra’s $1,299.99 starting price was $750 above the A57’s $549.99 starting price. Samsung announced 256GB, 512GB and 1TB S26 Ultra configurations, while its A57 US announcement described a $549.99 starting price for an unlocked Awesome Navy version. The headline gap compares starting prices, not matching storage tiers; it also does not establish what either phone costs now at a retailer.

For a separate regional reference, Samsung Japan listed the SIM-free A57 at ¥79,800 including tax in its online shop on April 16, 2026, with a Japan release date of April 23. Other retailers could set different prices. That yen price is not directly comparable with the US-dollar launch figures.
Display: sharper resolution on the Ultra, large 120Hz screen on both
The S26 Ultra has a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh from 1Hz to 120Hz. The A57 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED+ display with refresh rates up to 120Hz. On the published specifications, the Ultra offers the higher resolution and adaptive refresh range, while the A57 still provides a large screen with a 120Hz ceiling. These figures do not by themselves establish brightness, outdoor visibility or a real-world viewing-quality advantage.

Cameras: dedicated optical zoom on the S26 Ultra
Samsung’s global specification table lists a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide and separate 10MP 3x and 50MP 5x telephoto cameras for the S26 Ultra. The A57’s listed rear system comprises a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro camera; it also has a 12MP front camera.

The Ultra has more dedicated long-range optical camera hardware in its published specification. The megapixel counts and lens list are not independent evidence of which phone produces better photos or video: that would require comparative image-quality testing.

Performance, size and battery
Processor
Samsung specifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the S26 Ultra. Its cited US A57 launch announcement refers to upgraded CPU, GPU and NPU but does not name the chipset in the cited specifications. Without comparable independent benchmarks, the published information supports identifying the Ultra’s processor but not quantifying a real-world speed gap.
Weight and dimensions
The A57 is listed at 179g and 6.9mm thick, compared with 214g and 7.9mm for the S26 Ultra. The A57 is therefore 35g lighter and 1mm thinner on the stated figures. Samsung cautions that the Ultra’s weight may vary by market.

Battery
Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery for the S26 Ultra and a 5,000mAh typical capacity for the A57. Capacity alone does not establish how long either phone lasts between charges; no comparative battery-life result is established here.

Samsung announced seven years of security updates for the S26 series. For the A57, it promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. These are not identical commitments, and the figures should not be converted into a shared end date: Samsung describes the Ultra’s support figure in years of security updates, while the A57 announcement separately specifies upgrade generations and a maximum security-update period. See Samsung’s US S26 announcement and US A57 announcement.

- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the S26 Ultra if you prioritize QHD+ resolution, the named flagship processor, or dedicated 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras—and are comfortable with its much higher US launch starting price and greater weight.
- Consider the A57 if the lower announced US starting price, lighter body and large 120Hz display matter more than the Ultra’s higher-tier screen resolution and telephoto hardware.
This recommendation follows the published specifications and launch prices. They do not establish which phone has better battery endurance, camera results or everyday speed in independent testing.
US launch availability and buying context
Samsung named Amazon Stores, Best Buy, Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung.com and carriers among US pre-order outlets for the S26 series. That establishes Amazon as a channel at the Ultra’s US launch, not its present stock or a particular current listing. Samsung’s cited US A57 announcement names Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung.com for the unlocked phone; it does not establish A57 availability on Amazon. Check current local listings, configuration and price before buying.
