The Galaxy S23 is the compact option, the S23+ pairs a larger screen with a bigger battery, and the S23 Ultra adds a higher-resolution main camera, a dedicated 10x optical telephoto camera, and an integrated S Pen. All three share Samsung’s 2023 flagship family, but their size, display resolution, camera reach, and storage options differ. The right choice depends on which of those differences matters to you—not on a universal best-to-worst ranking.
Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra at a glance
Samsung’s specifications distinguish the three models most clearly by screen size, camera hardware, battery capacity, and stylus support. The figures below are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish real-world battery life or independent camera performance. Display sizes are measured diagonally, and rounded corners reduce the viewable area. Samsung’s US comparison page and its global launch announcement provide the specifications.

Storage configurations can differ by market. Samsung calls the battery figures “typical” capacities; capacity alone cannot tell you how many hours a phone will last. Samsung says battery life varies with network conditions and use.

Size and display
The S23’s 6.1-inch screen makes it the smallest of the family. The 6.6-inch S23+ gives you more display area, while the 6.8-inch Ultra is the largest and the only one of the three with QHD+ resolution. All three use Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, but Samsung lists the S23 and S23+ at 120Hz and the Ultra at an adaptive 1–120Hz.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Camera hardware and zoom
The S23 and S23+ have the same listed rear-camera configuration: a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The Ultra upgrades the main camera to 200MP and adds a separate 10MP 10x optical telephoto alongside its 3x telephoto. Samsung’s “100x” figure for the Ultra combines 10x optical zoom with digital zoom; Samsung cautions that image quality may deteriorate beyond 10x. That label should not be read as equivalent to 100x optical detail.
Battery capacity
Listed typical capacity rises from 3,900mAh in the S23 to 4,700mAh in the S23+ and 5,000mAh in the Ultra. These are capacity specifications, not a directly comparable runtime test, so they cannot by themselves establish which model lasts longest in your use.
Rank #2
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
S Pen and storage
Only the S23 Ultra has an S Pen integrated into the phone. The US comparison listings show 128GB and 256GB options for the S23, 256GB and 512GB for the S23+, and up to 1TB for the Ultra in launch materials. Availability varies by market, so confirm the exact configuration where you plan to buy.
Which Galaxy S23 should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S23 if a smaller, lighter phone is your priority and the shared 3x-telephoto camera setup is enough for you.
- Choose the Galaxy S23+ if you want a larger screen and higher listed battery capacity than the S23, without moving to the Ultra’s camera system or integrated S Pen.
- Choose the Galaxy S23 Ultra if you value its 200MP main camera, dedicated 10x optical telephoto, QHD+ screen, or built-in S Pen enough to accept the largest chassis. Its 100x headline zoom relies on digital zoom beyond 10x optical.
This is a decision based on Samsung’s published differences, not an independent finding that one model performs best overall. If you are comparing refurbished or second-hand phones, check the exact storage version and physical condition as well as the model name.

Launch prices and update commitment: what the figures mean
Samsung’s US starting prices announced on February 1, 2023 were $799.99 for the S23, $999.99 for the S23+, and $1,199.99 for the S23 Ultra. These are historical US launch prices, not current offers. Samsung said general availability began February 17, 2023. Current prices, stock, trade-in terms, and refurbished availability are not established by those launch figures. See Samsung’s US launch announcement for the original pricing and availability details.
At launch, Samsung announced four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the S23 series. Samsung noted that timing and availability could vary by model and market. That announcement describes the launch commitment; it does not establish the current update status of a particular device, carrier, or region. Check the support information for the exact model and market before buying.

Charging details for US launch configurations
Samsung’s US launch materials recommended a 25W adapter for the S23 and a 45W adapter for the S23+. They also said the adapter and data cable were sold separately. These are US launch-era recommendations; check the current device listing and package contents for your region rather than assuming an adapter is included.
