The Galaxy S23 is the better fit if you want a compact, lighter phone with the stronger listed processor and higher-resolution telephoto and selfie cameras. Choose the Galaxy S23 FE if you prefer a larger screen and a higher rated battery capacity. They share several headline features, including a 50MP main camera, 3× optical zoom, IP68 water and dust resistance, and up to 120Hz adaptive refresh in Samsung Germany’s comparison. The right buy also depends on your local price and the exact regional model; current prices and stock are not established here.

Which phone is the better fit?
Choose the Galaxy S23 for a compact phone
At 168 g and 146.3 mm tall, the S23 is 41 g lighter and 11.7 mm shorter than the FE in Samsung Germany’s specifications. Its 6.1-inch screen is easier to manage if you prefer a smaller handset, and Samsung lists Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the S23 versus Gorilla Glass 5 on the FE.
Choose the Galaxy S23 FE for a bigger screen
The FE’s 6.4-inch display gives you more screen area, but the phone is also wider, thicker, and heavier: 76.5 mm wide, 8.2 mm thick, and 209 g. Both German models are listed with FHD+ resolution and adaptive refresh up to 120Hz, so the FE’s screen advantage is size rather than a higher listed resolution or refresh ceiling.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Let local price and exact model settle close calls
Current retail prices and stock are not established here, so there is no reliable basis for calling either phone the better value today. Compare the same storage capacity from reputable sellers in your market, and confirm the model number and processor before buying. Samsung’s UK FE specifications page says detailed specifications may vary by country, region, or carrier.
Processor: check the regional version
For the German models, Samsung lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy in the S23 and Exynos 2200 in the S23 FE. Samsung’s UK FE page also lists Exynos 2200, but that does not prove that every S23 FE sold worldwide uses the same chip. If processor choice matters to you, verify the precise regional SKU rather than relying on a general product name.

Camera hardware: similar main cameras, different secondary specs
Both phones have a 50MP f/1.8 main camera and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera. Samsung lists 3× optical zoom on each, but the S23’s telephoto camera is 10MP while the FE’s is 8MP. The S23 also has a 12MP front camera, compared with 10MP on the FE.
Rank #3
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Those specifications describe camera hardware, not a guaranteed real-world winner. They do not establish which phone takes better portraits, handles low light better, stabilizes video more effectively, or processes images more pleasingly. Samsung’s US S23 business sheet lists 8K video at 24fps and 4K at 60fps for all lenses; check the specifications for your exact regional model if a particular video mode is important.
Battery capacity and charging are not the same as battery life
Samsung Germany lists a 3,900mAh battery for the S23 and a 4,500mAh battery for the FE. The larger rated capacity does not by itself show that the FE lasts longer in everyday use: screen size, processor, network conditions, settings, and workload all affect endurance.
Rank #4
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
Samsung’s Germany comparison gives manufacturer estimates—not independent test results—of up to 20 hours of LTE internet use for the S23 and 19 hours for the FE. It estimates up to 20 hours of Wi-Fi internet use and 22 hours of wireless video playback for each. Samsung notes that actual performance varies with usage conditions.
For the German models, Samsung lists 25W wired and 15W wireless charging for both phones. Its US S23 specification sheet lists 10.8W wireless charging, illustrating why detailed charging figures should be checked against the documentation for the local model and charging method.

Software support: compare the commitment, not launch versions
Samsung says the S23 series receives up to four years of One UI and Android OS updates and five years of security updates. Samsung also stated four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates in its US S23 FE launch announcement. These are support commitments; they do not identify the software currently installed on a particular phone or calculate how much support remains in October 2026.
Launch software listings vary across Samsung pages: the German comparison records Android 13 and One UI 5.1 for the S23, and Android 14 and One UI 6.0 for the FE; Samsung UK’s FE page instead records Android 13 at launch alongside One UI 6.0. Do not treat a launch-version line as the phone’s current software. Check the device’s update status and Samsung’s current regional support information before purchase, especially for older stock.
Shared features and key differences
Samsung Germany lists IP68, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and DeX support for both models. The FE is therefore not simply a larger-screen alternative with fewer headline features: its main tradeoffs are greater size and weight, a different regional processor, and lower listed telephoto and selfie camera resolutions. Neither phone’s specification sheet alone establishes independent camera, thermal, or battery-test superiority.
