The ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCG is a 31.5-inch Fast IPS monitor with two alternative display modes: 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) at up to 160Hz, or 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) at up to 320Hz. It does not run 4K at 320Hz. Choose the higher-resolution mode for detail or the lower-resolution mode for the monitor’s highest refresh rate; your source device, connection and settings also need to support the selected signal.
How the XG32UCG’s two modes work
ASUS specifies a native resolution of 3840 × 2160 on a 31.5-inch, 16:9 Fast IPS panel. Its dual-mode feature lets you switch between that 4K resolution at a maximum 160Hz and Full HD at a maximum 320Hz. Those are alternative resolution-and-refresh-rate combinations, not simultaneous maxima. The published specifications are on ASUS’s US specification page and ASUS’s UK product page.

| Mode | Resolution | Maximum refresh rate | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| UHD | 3840 × 2160 | 160Hz | More image detail, with a lower maximum refresh rate than the Full HD mode. |
| FHD | 1920 × 1080 | 320Hz | Higher maximum refresh rate, at substantially lower resolution. |
ASUS describes switching between modes with a hotkey on its UK page. The exact control and available signal modes can depend on the monitor’s on-screen settings and connected source, so check the manual and the refresh-rate options your device exposes rather than assuming every connection supports every combination.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat you need to use 160Hz or 320Hz
The monitor’s maximum is only one part of the setup. The computer or console must output the desired resolution and refresh rate, and the connection and cable must carry that signal. ASUS lists three inputs: one HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, and one USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode. It does not establish in the cited specifications that every source, cable or mode combination will deliver the maximum rate.
#1 Best Overall
- Dual Mode Display Technology: 32-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) gaming monitor with versatile dual mode (4K @ 160 Hz or FHD @ 320 Hz)
- Ultra-Fast Response Time: ASUS Fast IPS technology enables a 0.3ms response time (minimum) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
- Advanced Motion Blur Reduction: ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
- Superior Color Accuracy: 95% DCI-P3 color gamut with ASUS advanced gray-scale tracking technology ensures smoother color gradation delivered and uniformity
- Convenient Settings Management: DisplayWidget Center enables easy monitor settings adjustments with a mouse
- Connect a source whose graphics hardware and output support the resolution and refresh rate you want. For USB-C, the source must support DisplayPort Alt Mode.
- Use a suitable cable and input. ASUS lists HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode; the included cable depends on region. The US specification page lists a DisplayPort cable in the box.
- Select the monitor’s desired dual mode using its controls or the documented hotkey, then select the matching resolution and refresh rate in your source device’s display settings.
- Confirm that the system reports the intended combination—3840 × 2160 at up to 160Hz, or 1920 × 1080 at up to 320Hz. If a rate is missing, check source output support, cable, input, monitor mode and graphics settings.
The USB-C port is specified for 15W Power Delivery. That is a modest power output, not evidence that the monitor can act as a full-power laptop dock or replace a laptop’s usual charger.
Adaptive sync, response time and HDR specifications
ASUS lists Adaptive-Sync, ELMB Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC Compatible, and VESA AdaptiveSync Display 160Hz/320Hz certifications. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities and certifications; they are not independent measurements of motion clarity, input lag or performance in a particular game or system.

ASUS’s US specification page lists a 1ms GTG response time and a 0.3ms minimum response time. Treat these as manufacturer figures, not independently measured transition times. Actual motion behavior can vary with the selected setting and operating conditions.
The same specification page lists 350 cd/m² typical brightness, 400 cd/m² peak HDR brightness, 1000:1 typical contrast, and 95% DCI-P3 color coverage. It also lists VESA DisplayHDR 400 and HDR10. These figures describe the published specifications; they do not by themselves establish how impactful HDR will look in real content.

The XG32UCG’s defining choice is between sharp 4K gaming at up to 160Hz and a lower-resolution Full HD mode at up to 320Hz. It may suit someone who values having both options on one screen and whose PC can output the mode they want. The trade-off is explicit: the 320Hz ceiling comes with a drop to 1920 × 1080, not 4K.
