On a Samsung Galaxy S23, you can either copy audio files you already own or have access to onto the phone, or download music inside a streaming app for offline listening. Copied files can be opened in a compatible local music player; streaming downloads remain managed by the app and are not ordinary audio files you can move freely.
Choose the right way to download music
| What you have or want | How to get it on the S23 | Where it plays | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compatible audio files on a computer | Transfer them over USB | A local-file player such as Samsung Music | Format support and DRM compatibility can vary |
| Music available through a streaming service | Use that service’s in-app download control | The service’s app | Offline access follows the service’s account, device, and retention rules |
Copy music files from a computer to your Galaxy S23
Samsung’s file-transfer instructions cover Windows PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks. You need a USB data cable compatible with both the phone and computer; if you already have one, no additional accessory is needed.

#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Use Samsung Music
Open Samsung Music and allow access to device files if prompted. The app scans saved music and can display it under Tracks or Albums. Samsung lists MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC among supported formats, while noting that compatibility can vary by device and software. See Samsung’s Samsung Music guidance for app details.
Use YouTube Music
In YouTube Music, open Library & downloads, turn on Show device files, and grant file access when asked. This makes locally stored files available in the app; it does not turn streaming downloads into transferable files. Samsung’s transfer guide also describes this option.

Download music for offline listening in a streaming app
Streaming downloads are controlled by the service that provides them. Use that app’s download feature and follow its eligibility and account requirements; the saved content stays within the app’s offline system.

Spotify’s offline-listening guidance says mobile users cannot download individual songs directly. Add a song to a playlist, then download the playlist. Downloaded content can be played offline, and Spotify’s Offline Mode can show only downloaded content.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Spotify says downloads may be lost if you do not connect to the internet at least once every 30 days, reinstall the app, download to more than five devices, or run into an app or SD-card issue. The same support guidance recommends at least 1GB of free memory. These are Spotify-specific rules and recommendations, not general requirements for every music app.
Spotify also explains that Android users with an external SD card available to the app can select it for downloads. This does not mean every Galaxy S23 setup supports or uses an external card; follow the storage options actually available in your app and device.

- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
Check file compatibility before transferring
Common formats such as MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC are listed for Samsung Music, but support varies. Samsung’s app listing notes that format compatibility can depend on the device and software; its Google Play listing provides current app details. Avoid assuming every audio file will appear or play correctly.
Samsung also cautions that “Purchased music that is protected by DRM may not be compatible with your Galaxy device.” A purchase may therefore not work as a local track even after you transfer it. Check the file’s usage restrictions and the seller’s download terms.
