The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G officially received Android 15 through the One UI 7.0 upgrade. Samsung’s compatibility list includes the S21 FE, and firmware records confirm Android 15/One UI 7 packages for several variants. Distribution was staged, however, so the date and build depended on your model number, country, CSC and carrier. Some variants may now be on a later One UI release, so check the phone itself rather than relying on an old rollout report.
Samsung’s original announcement began the wider One UI 7 rollout on April 7, 2025, while regional schedules placed the S21 FE in later waves, including June 25 in parts of Latin America. Those were regional milestones, not one worldwide release date.

What “tested with Android 15” means now
Early reports that Samsung was “testing” Android 15 described development or pre-release firmware. That wording is outdated for the S21 FE: the update became a public, officially supported release. Samsung calls it the One UI 7.0 Upgrade, and the underlying operating system is Android 15.

Samsung’s US compatibility page lists the Galaxy S21 FE among phones receiving One UI 7.0: Samsung One UI 7 compatibility and support. Official firmware records also show Android 15/One UI 7 packages for examples such as the US unlocked SM-G990U1, SM-G990E and SM-G990B2 variants:

Which Galaxy S21 FE models are covered?
“Galaxy S21 FE” is a product family, not a single universal firmware package. To identify yours, open Settings → About phone → Model name / Model number. Do not install a package intended for another model: processor, modem, CSC, bootloader and carrier certification can differ.

Also check whether the phone is carrier-branded, imported, factory unlocked or merely SIM-unlocked. A SIM-unlocked device can remain on its original carrier’s update channel. Snapdragon and Exynos versions were sold in different markets, so performance, modem behavior and battery results cannot be generalized from one variant to every S21 FE.
What One UI 7.0 changes on the S21 FE
Samsung’s One UI 7 documentation and S21 FE release notes identify these changes:
- Adjustable app-icon size.
- Options to show or hide text labels under app icons and featured widgets.
- Share-panel previews that show images before you send them.
- Reworked media-control, timer, stopwatch, voice-recorder and Samsung Health information panels.
- Writing Assist for selected text in supported applications.
- Audio Eraser controls for reducing selected categories of sound in compatible video-editing workflows.
Availability is not identical across Galaxy phones. Samsung says features can vary by device, country, carrier and software version, and some AI functions may be limited or unavailable on the S21 FE. A feature demonstrated on a Galaxy S25 is not proof that the same feature, language support or processing behavior exists on your S21 FE. How to check for Android 15 and One UI 7
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update. Some carrier builds use System updates.
- Tap Download and install.
- Choose Check for system updates or Check for software updates, depending on the build.
- If offered, tap Download now and follow the prompts.
- After rebooting, open Settings → About phone → Software information.
Verify the Android version, One UI version, security patch level, build number and baseband version. Android 15 and One UI 7.0 confirm that this upgrade is installed; a later One UI version means your variant has moved beyond it.

If the update does not appear
Work through these checks before considering manual firmware flashing:
- Confirm the exact model number and current CSC or region.
- Use stable Wi-Fi, free sufficient internal storage and charge the phone.
- Restart the phone and check again.
- Check whether it is carrier-branded or imported, and whether its original carrier’s SIM is required.
- Allow time for a staged carrier rollout; another S21 FE model receiving the update does not make yours eligible immediately.

Samsung Smart Switch for Windows or Mac can offer the official desktop update path and can also back up the phone.
- Install and open Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac.
- Connect the S21 FE with a USB data cable.
- Allow Smart Switch to detect the phone.
- Select Update if it is offered.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and do not disconnect the cable or use the phone until it reboots.
Use the official instructions at Samsung Smart Switch support. Smart Switch is not permission to install arbitrary firmware from another country or model.
Prepare before installing
- Back up photos, messages, contacts and important files. Samsung’s setup and backup guidance is at Samsung Galaxy setup and Smart Switch backup and transfer.
- Confirm you can sign in to your Samsung and Google accounts.
- Keep the phone on power or sufficiently charged and leave enough free storage.
- Do not start immediately before travel, work or an emergency. The phone cannot be used during installation, and calls, including emergency calls, may be unavailable.
Post-update checks
After the phone restarts, verify Android and One UI versions and the security-patch date. Test cellular service, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, fingerprint and face unlock, camera, Gallery and Samsung Wallet or Pay if you use them. Update Samsung and third-party apps, then review notifications, permissions, battery settings, default apps and your launcher layout.
Battery behavior may look unusual while apps are re-optimized. Judge it over several charge cycles, not immediately after installation. Network conditions, 5G use, battery age, display settings and app permissions can matter more than the One UI version.
When installation fails
Downloads repeatedly fail
Use stable Wi-Fi, free storage, restart and retry. If OTA continues to fail, Samsung recommends Smart Switch: download-failure troubleshooting.
The phone is stuck at the boot logo
Keep it connected to power for a reasonable recovery period. Use a forced restart only according to Samsung’s device-specific instructions, and avoid repeatedly interrupting the boot process. If it still will not start, contact Samsung service or arrange an online repair appointment. Unauthorized flashing or an improvised factory reset can complicate data recovery.

One UI 7 extends the phone’s usable software life, but it does not erase hardware differences or battery wear. Consider battery health, storage, camera requirements, 5G performance and the security coverage shown for your exact model. Samsung announced a four-generation OS-upgrade policy for selected Galaxy devices, including the S21 series, but future support remains dependent on policy, market and carrier decisions: Samsung’s four-generation upgrade policy.
Current-status note
Android 15 and One UI 7 were officially delivered to the Galaxy S21 FE. However, Samsung firmware records also show One UI 8.0/Android 16 entries for some variants, including SM-G990U1 and SM-G990E. As of August 18, 2026—and still relevant when checking today—the current version may therefore differ by model and region. The Software information screen is the authoritative check for your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Android 15 available for every Galaxy S21 FE?
It was officially released for the S21 FE family, but timing and current software depend on the exact model, CSC, country and carrier. Check the model number and Software information screen.
Can I install firmware from another country?
Do not assume it is safe. CSC, bootloader, modem and carrier compatibility can differ, and manual flashing can cause data loss or failure. Use OTA or Smart Switch instead.
Will One UI 7 erase my data?
A normal OTA or Smart Switch upgrade is designed to preserve data, but Samsung still recommends a complete backup before installation.
Why is my carrier delaying the update?
Carrier certification and staged deployment can delay a build even after another S21 FE variant or region has received it.
Is One UI 7 the latest version for my S21 FE?
