Check the affected app’s notification settings and sleep status first, then review power-saving modes and other restrictions. Samsung notes that menu names and paths vary by model and software version.
Why Galaxy notifications can be delayed despite a working connection
Samsung says apps in Sleeping apps may run in the background only occasionally, so their updates and notifications may be delayed. Apps in Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background; Samsung says their updates and notifications arrive only when you open the app. See Samsung’s Galaxy battery guidance.

Power saving can also restrict background apps from using Wi-Fi and mobile data. Android Help explains that Battery Saver limits or turns off background activity, so apps and network connections may experience delays. Separately, notification permissions, Do Not Disturb, Data Saver, or settings inside the app can prevent an alert from appearing as expected. A working connection alone does not identify which of these, if any, is responsible.

After each meaningful change, send or wait for a test notification from the app. Change only the relevant setting so you can tell what helps.

- Allow notifications. Open Settings and find the affected app’s notification settings. Make sure notifications are allowed and the relevant categories are enabled. Also check notification controls inside the app; some apps have additional settings there. Samsung’s instructions are at Apps on Samsung phone or tablet are not sending notifications.
- Remove sleep restrictions. In Settings, look under Battery or Device care for Background usage limits. Remove the app from Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps. If it is repeatedly put to sleep and the option is available, consider adding it to Never auto sleeping apps. The exact route and availability vary by model and software version.
- Test without power-saving modes. Temporarily turn off Samsung Power saving and Android Battery Saver, then test again. These modes conserve power by limiting background work; Samsung says Power saving restricts background apps from Wi-Fi and mobile data. Android Help describes Battery Saver’s possible effects at Get the most life from your Android device’s battery.
- Check other restrictions. Make sure Do Not Disturb is not suppressing the alert and check whether Data Saver is enabled. Samsung includes both in its notification troubleshooting guidance.
- Update, then consider clearing cache. Update the affected app and your phone’s software. If notifications still fail, Samsung also lists clearing the app’s cache as a troubleshooting step. It is not a guaranteed fix.
Choose a targeted battery setting, not a global workaround
If removing the app from a sleep list restores timely alerts, leaving it out of that list may be reasonable for an app where prompt notifications matter. Samsung says Never auto sleeping apps can use additional battery because they are allowed more background activity. Prefer adjusting only the affected app rather than disabling battery management for every app. Samsung’s Galaxy Battery – Optimization page describes Never sleeping apps; the option may not be present on every version.
If alerts are still late
The available guidance does not establish one universal cause or fix. The remaining issue could involve the phone, the app, its service, or particular network conditions; the checks above cannot distinguish those on their own. Before contacting the app’s support or Samsung, note:

- The affected app and Galaxy model.
- The Android and One UI versions shown on the phone.
- Whether the delay occurs while the phone is idle, actively in use, or both.
- Whether it happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both.
Those details help narrow the case without assuming that a good connection rules out every network-related factor. Samsung’s notification troubleshooting page lists a last update date of 2025-05-12; it does not report a typical delay duration or a success rate for these steps.
