Pinger says it encrypts messages on the part of the route it controls, up to its servers, but it cannot confirm encryption after an outside provider takes over delivery. So if by “Is Pinger encrypted?” you mean “Can only I and my recipient read the messages?”, Pinger’s published answer is no.
What “encrypted” means for TextFree
Pinger’s support article is specifically about TextFree, one of Pinger, Inc.’s apps. The company states: “TextFree does not support end-to-end encryption of text messages, however, our servers are encrypted.” Pinger’s TextFree support article distinguishes the portion of message delivery it controls from the onward route.

End-to-end encryption is designed so the service carrying a message cannot ordinarily read its contents in transit. Encryption on a service-controlled network segment is a narrower claim: it can protect that segment without preventing the service from accessing message content. Pinger’s statement does not establish end-to-end protection.

Where Pinger says its protection begins and ends
On-net: up to Pinger’s servers
Pinger says messages are secure from the time they are sent until they reach its servers, describing this as “on-net messaging.” The company says it controls encryption on that segment.

Off-net: onward delivery
After reaching Pinger’s servers, messages are sent through a service provider that routes inbound and outbound messages. Pinger calls this “off-net messaging,” says that portion is outside its control, and says it cannot confirm its encryption. Its documentation does not name a protocol, explain key management, or guarantee that every transmission is encrypted.
Why Google Play’s disclosure looks different
The TextFree Google Play listing displays the data-safety label “Data isn’t encrypted.” The listing also says its privacy and security information may vary by use, region, and age. That label sits uneasily beside Pinger’s statement that its controlled segment is encrypted. The published materials do not specify which data, transfer states, or conditions the label covers, so they do not allow a precise technical reconciliation.

Read the disclosures conservatively: neither supports a claim of end-to-end encryption. If the difference between the store label and Pinger’s server-segment description matters to your decision, ask Pinger which data and transmission states the label covers.

What Pinger’s privacy notice says it keeps
Pinger’s privacy policy describes physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards, and says collected customer information is stored securely with access available to authorized Pinger personnel and bound contractors or agents. Those general safeguards are not a promise that Pinger cannot access message content. Pinger’s privacy policy, last updated September 8, 2026, identifies Pinger, TextFree, TextFree Voice, Sideline, and Index as separate company apps; the TextFree encryption explanation should not automatically be applied to every product bearing the Pinger name.

Does TextFree Plus add encryption?
No such change is documented in the cited materials. Pinger presents TextFree Plus as an advertising-free feature; its privacy notice does not say that Plus adds end-to-end encryption or changes the message-routing boundary. It should not be treated as a security upgrade.
