Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To make a Samsung Galaxy easier to use at night, try Dark mode for darker menus, Eye comfort shield for a warmer display tone, and Extra dim when the lowest normal brightness is still too bright. For a bedtime routine, Sleep mode can combine display changes with Do not disturb. These controls do different jobs, so adjust them one at a time and keep brightness comfortable for the room.
Choose the setting that solves the problem
| Setting | What it changes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Dark mode | Darkens supported system menus and apps. | Bright interface backgrounds feel harsh. |
| Eye comfort shield | Shifts display colors toward warmer tones. | You prefer a warmer-looking screen. |
| Extra dim | Lowers brightness beyond the regular brightness control. | The display remains too bright at its lowest regular setting. |
| Sleep mode | Can bundle display changes and interruption controls. | You want a bedtime routine rather than separate toggles. |
| Screen zoom | Changes the size of on-screen content. | Text and interface elements are difficult to read. |
Menu names and feature availability vary by Galaxy model, region, and software version. The paths below reflect Samsung support guidance; if a path differs on your phone, search Settings for the feature name.

How to turn on and schedule Dark mode
- Open Settings > Display.
- Tap Dark mode to switch to the dark interface.
- To set a schedule on supported software, open Dark mode settings and choose sunset-to-sunrise or custom start and end times.
You can also swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Dark mode Quick Settings tile. Touch and hold the tile to reach its settings. Dark mode applies to Samsung’s system interface and supported apps, not necessarily every third-party app. Downloaded themes and some high-contrast fonts can also affect how it looks. Samsung notes that some apps may flicker with Dark/Night mode and advises keeping phone and app software current. See Samsung Canada’s Dark mode instructions and Samsung US guidance on eye-comfort settings.
How to enable Eye comfort shield
- Open Settings > Display > Eye comfort shield.
- Turn it on, then select an available option such as adaptive behavior or a custom schedule.
- If the controls are available, adjust the color temperature to the warmth you prefer.
The feature may also appear as a Quick Settings tile. Samsung’s US guide identifies Eye comfort shield on One UI 3.1 and higher devices, but availability can vary by model. The warmer tint is a display preference, not a guarantee that the setting will prevent eye strain or improve sleep. Samsung’s instructions are at Reduce eye strain on your Galaxy phone or tablet.

Make text easier to read with Screen zoom
If the main problem is small text or controls rather than brightness or color, open Settings > Display > Screen zoom and adjust the size of on-screen content. This changes interface scale; it does not warm the display or darken its surfaces. Samsung’s display troubleshooting guide explains the setting at Troubleshoot display issues on your Samsung Galaxy device.

Fix a screen that looks unexpectedly dark or tinted
If the display changes more than you intended, check the settings that can affect brightness and color before changing several controls at once:
- Extra dim: turn it off or reduce its intensity if the screen is too dark.
- Eye comfort shield: turn it off or change its schedule if the screen is unexpectedly warm.
- Color filter: check under Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements.
- Adaptive color tone: check whether it is available and enabled on your model.
Names and availability vary. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide for unusual screen colors covers these display-related checks.
