On a Samsung Galaxy, Do Not Disturb and Sleeping apps are separate settings. Do Not Disturb controls whether notifications interrupt you or are hidden; Sleeping and Deep sleeping apps limit what an app can do in the background. Either can make an alert seem missing or delayed, but neither is the only possible cause. Check notification permissions and categories too.
Do Not Disturb and Sleeping apps do different jobs

Samsung describes the Deep sleeping inactivity period as currently 16 days, but says the duration can change according to policy; it is not a permanent or universal threshold. In short, Do Not Disturb affects alerting and presentation; app sleep management affects background work. Samsung’s instructions for Do Not Disturb and notification behavior are at Use Do not disturb mode on your Galaxy phone.
Diagnose the pattern before changing settings
- Alerts are missing or quiet only while Do Not Disturb is on: inspect its schedule, exceptions, and hide-notification settings.
- Notifications arrive only after opening the app: check whether it is in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, then review its own notification settings.
- The notification is in the shade but there was no sound or pop-up: focus on the notification category’s sound and presentation settings rather than assuming delivery was delayed.
- The problem persists across those checks: verify app notification permission and category settings. These patterns are useful clues, not proof of a cause.
Check Do Not Disturb, including schedules
- Open Quick Settings or search Settings for Do not disturb. Menu wording can differ by model and software version.
- Check whether it is on now and whether a schedule turns it on automatically.
- If you want DND to stay on, review Allowed during Do not disturb for the people, apps, calls, messages, and alarms that should still alert you.
- Review Hide notifications. An alert can be silenced or hidden from a particular view rather than blocked from the app’s background activity.

Check Sleeping and Deep sleeping apps
- Open Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits. This is Samsung Developer’s route; labels or availability may vary on your phone.
- Inspect Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps for the app with delayed alerts.
- Remove the app from the applicable list if it needs to perform timely background work. Samsung describes Never sleeping apps as the exception list.
- Test by closing the app and waiting for a notification you expect, then compare with the app open. A change can help identify whether the background restriction is involved.

Verify notification permission and categories
Even with DND off and the app removed from sleep lists, Android may not show the alert as expected if notification permission is disabled or the relevant category is silent, disabled, or set not to pop up. Open the app’s notification settings and confirm Allow notifications is enabled; inspect the specific category for the type of alert you are missing.

Samsung says screens and settings vary by carrier, software version, and phone model. Android’s own guidance also warns that mode settings differ between phones, and some steps apply only to Android 14 and later. Treat menu paths here as routes to look for, not guaranteed labels; searching Settings for the named feature is often the quickest way to find its current location.
