Compare one affected app with other apps, reproduce the problem with Wi-Fi off, then test reversible changes one at a time. That sequence helps distinguish an app-specific fault from a shared phone setting or a mobile-network issue without assuming a single fix.
First confirm what is failing
Write down the affected app names, what happens (the app closes, freezes, or stays open while reporting no connection), your Galaxy model and Android/One UI version, carrier and country, and when the problem began. Note any recent app or system update, SIM or carrier change, VPN, ad blocker, firewall, or custom DNS setting. A page that cannot connect is not necessarily an app crash.

Compare apps and connection types
- Turn Wi-Fi off and reproduce the issue using mobile data. This confirms that the phone is not silently using Wi-Fi.
- Try at least one other affected app and one unrelated app on mobile data.
- If possible, try the affected app on Wi-Fi, then try mobile data on another network or SIM. These are diagnostic comparisons, not proof of a particular cause.
If only one app fails, begin with that app’s update and settings. If several unrelated apps fail together, investigate settings and network conditions shared by them. Samsung’s general app-crash guidance recommends checking whether an app behaves differently on another network, but it does not identify cellular-only crashes as one specific defect. Samsung UK Support (updated 28 July 2022).
Try low-risk app and software checks
- Restart the phone, then install available Galaxy software and app updates. Samsung advises checking software and related apps for updates early in app-crash troubleshooting. Menu names can vary by model and software version.
- If a single app is still affected, clear that app’s cache using its app information settings. The exact menu path differs across Android and One UI versions.
- Clear app data only if necessary and only after confirming the app’s information is synced or backed up. Samsung warns that clearing data can remove the app’s accounts, files, and settings.
- Reinstall the app only if it remains broken and its data can be recovered. Check with the app developer if the failure is isolated to that app.
Use Safe mode to check for downloaded-app interference
Test mobile data in Samsung Safe mode. Safe mode disables downloaded apps and loads the phone’s original software. If the problem disappears in Safe mode, a downloaded app may be involved; it does not identify which app or setting is responsible. Review apps installed or changed shortly before the issue began, removing or disabling them one at a time and retesting.

If present, VPN, firewall, security, ad-blocking, and DNS-filtering apps are reasonable candidates to examine because they can alter network handling. That is a troubleshooting hypothesis, not a documented diagnosis for this exact symptom. Samsung’s relevant Safe mode guidance appears in its mobile hotspot troubleshooting guide, which discusses downloaded apps and network connectivity generally.
Check Private DNS and VPN settings one at a time
If several unrelated apps are affected, inspect whether a custom Private DNS provider or VPN/filter is active. Change one setting, retest with Wi-Fi disabled, and restore the original setting if there is no improvement. Avoid changing several network controls at once; doing so makes the result harder to interpret.

Google Android Help documents Private DNS options as Off, Automatic, or a provider hostname, and recommends leaving Private DNS on by default. Google explains its scope: “Private DNS helps secure only DNS questions and answers.” It is therefore a controlled variable to test, not a universal fix or a reason to leave it disabled. Setting availability and menu paths vary by Android version and manufacturer; Google notes that some steps require Android 12 or later. See Manage advanced network settings on your Android phone.

Work out whether the phone or mobile network is implicated
- Check whether ordinary web browsing works on mobile data with Wi-Fi off.
- Confirm that the carrier account and data plan are active.
- Try the same app on another network or SIM if available. A changed result narrows where to investigate, but does not by itself prove the original network was at fault.
- If only one app fails, check that app’s developer status or support channel. If multiple services have mobile-network problems, contact the carrier; contact Samsung support if the phone remains affected after software and app isolation.
The precise cause cannot be established from the symptom alone; it depends on the model, software, affected apps, carrier and country, and reproducible test results. Samsung’s general guidance recommends contacting the carrier if network-service problems continue after reset.

A factory reset erases device data, so back up first and try the reversible checks above before considering it. Samsung also cautions that resetting may not permanently fix an app bug that needs an update. If you do reset, test mobile data before reinstalling downloaded apps; reinstalling them immediately can bring back an interference problem. If network-service trouble remains after reset, contact the carrier. Samsung’s hotspot troubleshooting guidance covers these reset and escalation cautions.
