Accidental touch protection helps prevent unwanted screen input when a Galaxy phone is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag. Touch sensitivity makes the screen more responsive to intended touches, which can help with gloves or a screen protector. They solve different problems: use the first for pocket taps and try the second if taps are not registering reliably, when the option is available on your model.

Samsung describes Accidental touch protection as keeping the screen off in dark places such as a pocket or bag to help avoid unintended actions, including unlocking the phone, calls, or messages. Samsung’s Galaxy S23-series manual likewise defines it around preventing touch input in dark places. A newer US setup guide for the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and Z Flip7 FE also discusses unintended touches near screen edges or corners; that wording is specific to those models, not a guarantee that every Galaxy behaves identically.

Touch sensitivity is not a pocket-protection feature. It increases touchscreen responsiveness; Samsung suggests it may help with gloves or a screen protector. If the screen is responding too easily, Samsung recommends turning Touch sensitivity off.

Where to find the settings
On supported Galaxy phones, Samsung’s general guidance places both controls at Settings > Display. Open Display and look for Accidental touch protection or Touch sensitivity. If a setting is absent, your model or software may not support it; searching for its name in Settings is another way to check.

Availability and exact options vary by model, software version, and wireless provider. Samsung says Accidental touch protection is typically not supported on Galaxy tablets, and either control may be missing on some Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S23-series manual also notes that features can vary by model.
If your phone wakes or responds in a pocket
Enable Accidental touch protection if it is available. Samsung says the feature is enabled by default on most Galaxy phones, but it is worth checking rather than assuming it is on. In a very dark place, a lock icon may appear; swipe it left or right to dismiss the protection.

- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake.
- Check whether pocket wake-ups improve. Samsung notes that turning off both may provide better results, but these steps are not guaranteed to fix every device.
If the screen remains too sensitive, Samsung also suggests turning Touch sensitivity off and enabling Accidental touch protection. These settings address different behaviors, so changing one does not replace the other.

If taps are not registering reliably
Touch sensitivity may help on a supported model, but check the screen and accessories too. A loose, misaligned, damaged, or peeling screen protector, dust, air bubbles, or stacked films can interfere with touch response. Samsung advises removing or realigning a misaligned protector, or replacing one that is damaged. If replacement is needed, match it to the exact Galaxy model.

- Gloves: Gloves can affect touchscreen response; try Touch sensitivity if the option is available.
- Wet screen: A wet screen may not respond properly even on a water-resistant phone. Gently wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth without pressing hard.
- Protector fit: Check for lifted edges, bubbles, dust, or overlapping films before treating the setting as a complete fix.
Which one should you use?
- Choose Accidental touch protection when the issue is unwanted input in a pocket or bag.
- Try Touch sensitivity when intentional taps are missed, especially with gloves or a screen protector.
- If either toggle is missing, check your model’s Display settings and search Settings; availability differs across Galaxy devices.
