1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo add a smart-home device to Apple Home, make sure the exact model supports Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter, then use the Home app on an iPhone or iPad to scan its setup code and assign it to a room. A hub is not required for local Matter control on iOS 18 or later, but it enables remote access, shared control, and automations—and some Thread devices need Thread-capable equipment.
Before you pair a device
Check the product’s exact model and manual for explicit Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter support. Working with a manufacturer’s app or another smart-home platform does not automatically make a device compatible with Apple Home. Also check whether setup requires a bridge, a particular Wi-Fi band, a firmware update, or Thread networking. Matter support alone does not guarantee that every manufacturer-app feature will be available in Apple Home.

- Use an iPhone or iPad to add the accessory; a Mac cannot add accessories to a home.
- Turn on Bluetooth and keep the phone or tablet and accessory near the home network during setup.
- Power on the accessory and follow any network or manufacturer-app instructions in its manual.
- Keep the setup code, packaging, and documentation handy until pairing is complete.
- If someone else owns the home, ask them to grant you permission to add and edit accessories.
Some accessories require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and do not support 5 GHz. Check the model’s requirements rather than assuming every device uses the same connection method.

- Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad and tap Add Accessory.
- Scan the accessory’s QR code, or follow the on-screen instructions to enter or use its setup code. Apple documents 8-digit Apple Home codes and 11- or 21-digit Matter codes. Some supported accessories can also be paired by bringing them near the device you’re using.
- If a Matter accessory is already paired with another ecosystem, tap More Options and follow the manufacturer’s process to get the sharing or pairing code.
- Complete the prompts, assign the accessory to a room, and give it a short, distinctive name.
Apple says Matter accessories paired with Home sync through iCloud Keychain. You can view them at Settings > General > Matter Accessories; Apple says the pairing keys stored there are end-to-end encrypted.

Decide whether you need a home hub
Apple’s current Matter guidance says an iPhone running iOS 18 or later can add and control Matter accessories in Home without a hub. Apple still recommends a hub for the best experience. In practice, choose one based on what you need, not simply because an accessory uses Matter.
- Local Matter control: A hub is not required when using an iPhone with iOS 18 or later for the supported local add-and-control use case.
- Remote access, shared control, or automations: A home hub enables these features when you’re away or when other people share control of the home.
- Thread accessories: Check the accessory’s exact requirements. Some Thread devices need a compatible Thread-capable home hub or border router for ongoing operation. An iPhone that can locally pair or manage a Thread accessory is not necessarily a full-time Thread border router.
Apple lists HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home hub options. HomePod becomes a hub when set up; Apple TV becomes one after it is assigned to a room. Check the exact model and its connectivity before relying on it for a Thread accessory.

- Remote Control: To enable HomeKit remote control, you need a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, or an iPad. Set any of these Apple devices in your house as a HomeKit bridge and connect it to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Keep in mind that once your HomeKit bridge is set up, it has to be kept online. If it is powered off or disconnected from the Wi-Fi, it will fail to respond when you intend to control the device remotely.
- Voice Control: You can control your devices hands free, just give voice commands to turn on/off the connected devices. Compatible with Apple HomeKit, Apple Watch, Siri, Carplay, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant.
- Compact Size: Smart plug occupies only one socket, the device allows you to stack two mini smart plugs in the same outlet, which is convenient and practical.
- Schedule: You can schedule connected devices to turn on and off automatically by smart plugs. Save energy when lights are not needed or left on by accident. Sunrise and sunset setting are supported.
- Quality: The meross Smart outlet is made of PC flame retardant material, and has been approved for safety and quality assurance. Certified by ETL and FCC, it supports home appliance up to 15A.
Organize accessories so they’re easy to control
Rooms, zones, and groups
Assign each accessory to the room where people naturally expect to find it. Put rooms into zones—such as upstairs and downstairs—when that makes control clearer. Group related accessories when you want them to behave together. You can adjust these arrangements in the Home app’s accessory and home settings.

Names and favorites
Choose short, recognizable names that make Siri requests unambiguous. For example, use a specific name such as “Reading lamp” instead of several accessories all called “Light.” Mark frequently used accessories as favorites so they’re easier to reach in the Home view.

Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.
Scenes and automations
A scene controls several accessories together with one tap or Siri request. An automation triggers actions based on a schedule or an accessory’s activity or state. A home hub supports automations and remote access, so account for that requirement when planning controls you expect to run when you’re away.

“Unable to add” or setup fails
- Confirm the exact accessory supports Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter, and check that it has power.
- Bring the accessory closer to the router and keep the iPhone or iPad nearby with Bluetooth enabled.
- Check the manufacturer’s app for firmware updates, setup steps, or a required bridge.
- Restart a bridge or hub if the accessory uses one, and verify that it is in the right pairing state.
- If Home reports a network incompatibility, check whether the accessory requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and whether your network meets its specifications.
“No Response” from one brand or accessory
If only one manufacturer’s devices are affected, check whether they respond in that maker’s app. Review its firmware and connection status, then check the brand’s bridge or hub and the accessory’s power and pairing state.
