Try the lower-risk checks below; if the camera still fails, have Samsung service assess it rather than guessing at a replacement part.
What may be causing the front-camera problem?
Possible causes include a temporary Camera app error or corrupted app data, low storage, an operating-system conflict or bug, interference from a downloaded app, or a fault in the camera sensor or internal circuitry. Samsung lists these as possibilities; they are not a measured ranking of causes. The symptom alone cannot distinguish software trouble from hardware failure.

Notice whether the problem affects only the front camera or also the rear camera, whether it happens in Samsung’s Camera app or another app, and whether it began after an update, app installation, impact, or liquid exposure. These details can help support staff assess the issue, but testing another app does not conclusively prove that hardware is or is not at fault.
Try these checks in order
1. Restart the phone
Restarting can clear a temporary system or Camera app error. After the phone starts again, open Camera and test the front camera.

2. Reset Camera settings or clear Camera app data
Use the Camera app’s settings to reset its settings if that option is available. If the problem persists, clear the Camera app’s data through your phone’s app settings. Samsung says this resets Camera settings but does not delete saved photos or videos. It is not a factory reset. Menu names and paths vary by Galaxy model and software version.
3. Check for updates
Check for available Camera app updates and Galaxy software updates. Samsung’s update instructions and app availability can differ by device, software version, and region; use the update options shown on your phone.

4. Test in Safe Mode
Safe Mode disables downloaded apps, making it useful for checking whether one is interfering with the camera. If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, Samsung US Support says the cause is a downloaded app and advises uninstalling it. Remove recently installed apps one at a time, restarting and retesting the camera after each removal.

5. Run Samsung Members diagnostics, if available
On supported devices with Samsung Members installed, open Samsung Members → Support → Phone diagnostics → Camera. The diagnostic can provide useful information when you contact support, but Samsung does not say that it identifies a specific part to replace.

When to seek professional service
If the front camera remains unavailable after restarting, resetting or clearing Camera app data, updating, and checking Safe Mode, contact Samsung support or arrange service-center diagnosis. Samsung says persistent camera problems may require professional inspection of the camera module or internal circuitry. Give support your Galaxy model, software version if known, the exact error message, which camera is affected, and what troubleshooting you tried.
Do not buy a replacement module or open the phone based only on a blank preview or error message. Parts and repair procedures are model-specific, and a guide for one model does not establish compatibility with another.

Factory reset is a last resort
Samsung includes a factory data reset as a later troubleshooting option, but it erases data. Try the reversible checks first. If you decide to reset, back up important data beforehand and follow the reset instructions for your exact Galaxy model. A factory reset is different from clearing Camera app data, and Samsung notes that it may not be a permanent fix if an app issue returns.
