You can turn a Samsung freezer compartment into a fridge only if your exact model supports conversion. Samsung offers the feature on certain top-freezer refrigerators and upright freezers, but availability, modes, and controls vary by model and region. Find your model number and check its manual before pressing any buttons; simply raising the temperature on an ordinary freezer does not convert it into a refrigerator.
Does your Samsung freezer support fridge mode?
Start with the model number on the appliance label, then find that model’s user manual through Samsung’s temperature-setting guidance. Samsung says compartment controls differ across models. Its US guidance identifies certain top-freezer refrigerator and upright-freezer models as convertible, not every Samsung freezer.

How to switch a compatible model to fridge mode
First move frozen food to a suitable freezer and chilled food to a refrigerator. Samsung warns that food can thaw when switching to Fridge and can freeze when switching back to Freezer.

- Find your exact model’s instructions. Use the manual for the model and region, rather than treating the examples below as universal.
- Use only the control sequence documented for your model. For the convertible model covered by Samsung US’s dedicated instructions, hold Temp for three seconds to toggle between Fridge and Freezer.
- Follow the mode-selection steps in the manual. Samsung India’s documented top-mount system instead uses Freezer Convert: hold it for three seconds to enter selection mode, then cycle through the modes. The change activates after ten seconds. - Keep food out of any compartment set to Off. Samsung India warns that an Off compartment is not cold enough to prevent spoilage.
- Close the doors and let the temperature settle. Check the actual temperature before relying on the compartment for refrigerated food.
What temperature should you set?
Use the range and settings specified for your model. For the US convertible model covered by Samsung’s guide, Fridge mode ranges from 34–44°F and defaults to 37°F. That range is model-specific, not a setting range for every Samsung freezer.
For general refrigerator guidance, Samsung Canada gives 3°C (38°F) as its ideal setting and cites Health Canada’s recommendation to keep refrigerated food below 4°C (40°F). How to verify the temperature after conversion
A new setting does not mean the compartment has already reached that temperature. Samsung Canada says the interior can take up to 28 hours to stabilize with the doors closed. It recommends checking with a thermometer: place one in a glass of water at the center of the fridge, leave it for eight hours, and avoid frequent door opening during that period. The thermometer verifies the temperature; it does not enable conversion or certify that food is safe.

Capacity and energy claims depend on the specific model. A Samsung India catalog from 2020 describes up to 88 L of additional fridge space for model RT37M3724SL; that figure is not a general capacity increase for convertible Samsung freezers. The catalog’s energy statement is also tied to specified models and Samsung’s internal test conditions. The cited Samsung materials do not establish one conversion energy-use figure that applies across models.
