Samsung DeX gives compatible Galaxy phones and tablets a desktop-style workspace on a larger screen; supported tablets can also run DeX on their own display. Start by checking your exact Galaxy model and software against Samsung’s current compatibility guidance: support for HDMI, wireless display, DeX on PC, and standalone tablet mode is not interchangeable.
What Samsung DeX does
DeX runs on your supported Galaxy device and presents a desktop-style interface on a connected TV, monitor, or—in supported tablet models—the tablet screen itself. It is not a separate desktop operating system: available apps and capabilities depend on the Galaxy device and the apps it supports.

You can control DeX with touch, a phone or tablet used as a touchpad, a connected keyboard and mouse, and—in supported tablet configurations—an S Pen or keyboard cover. A separate keyboard and mouse are optional.
Check compatibility before choosing a setup
Look up your exact Galaxy model and software version in Samsung’s current DeX compatibility FAQ and supported-device information. Then check the guidance for the specific mode you intend to use. A phone that supports a wired display connection may not support DeX on PC, wireless DeX, or a legacy dock.

- HDMI: Requires a Galaxy model that supports DeX video output, plus a compatible cable or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter and an HDMI display. A USB-C port alone does not establish video-output support.
- Wireless display: Requires both a supported Galaxy device and a compatible display connection. Samsung’s guide identifies 2018-or-later Samsung TVs, Samsung Smart Monitors, and other Miracast-capable devices as options.
- DeX on PC: Availability depends on Galaxy model and software. Samsung’s US FAQ says DeX on PC is not supported on the Galaxy S25 and S26 families, certain newer Z-series devices, or devices updated to Android 15 with One UI 7 or later. Check the current FAQ before relying on this mode.
- Standalone tablet DeX: Available only on specified tablets and the Z TriFold, according to Samsung’s tablet guidance. Check the supported-device list for your exact model.
- DeX Pad or DeX Station: These legacy docks have a separate compatibility status. Samsung’s FAQ says they are not supported on Android 16 and One UI 8.
These details reflect Samsung’s US support guidance; availability and compatibility lists can change with region, device, and software releases.
Choose the DeX mode that fits your setup

How to connect Samsung DeX to a monitor with HDMI
- Confirm video-output support. Check Samsung’s compatibility information for your exact Galaxy model. Some tablet variants, including certain FE and Lite models, are excluded from HDMI output.
- Connect the display. Attach a compatible DeX cable or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter to the Galaxy device, then connect it to the HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
- Start DeX. Accept the on-device prompt, or open Quick Settings and select DeX if prompted. Choose the appropriate HDMI input on the display if the image does not appear.
- Set up controls if needed. Use the Galaxy device’s touchpad or touch controls, or connect a keyboard and mouse by USB or Bluetooth.
Connect DeX wirelessly
- On the Galaxy device, open Quick Settings or go to Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly.
- Select the compatible TV or monitor from the available devices.
- Accept the connection request on the display, if one appears.
If the connection is unstable, Samsung’s Saudi Arabia setup guidance recommends placing the devices on the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. That is regional troubleshooting advice, not a guarantee; wireless results can vary with network conditions, distance, and device compatibility.

Use DeX on a PC where supported
DeX on PC is limited by device family and software version. Samsung’s US FAQ says it is unavailable on the Galaxy S25 and S26 families and certain newer Z-series devices, and on devices updated to Android 15 with One UI 7 or later. Older compatible devices may connect through the DeX PC application on a supported Windows computer. Confirm current PC and software requirements in Samsung’s US DeX FAQ before installing or troubleshooting the app.

Run DeX directly on a compatible tablet
On a supported Galaxy tablet, open Quick Settings and launch DeX. Samsung also describes an updated workspace in which you can open an app and move it into pop-up view. Control options include touch, S Pen, keyboard, and mouse; a compatible Book Cover Keyboard is optional.

A keyboard and mouse can make a desktop-style workspace easier to use, but they are not prerequisites. Samsung documents using a connected Galaxy phone or tablet as a touchpad, as well as USB or Bluetooth input. Touchpad gestures vary, and some gestures are unavailable. On tablets, touch and S Pen are additional options.

Do not assume an accessory or connection mode works simply because another DeX mode works on the same device. Check the exact Galaxy model and software for each mode, particularly before buying a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or relying on a legacy dock.
