Samsung is not proven to make uniformly poor products. The criticism usually reflects friction around update timing, software complexity, unwanted ads, privacy expectations, and repair experiences—while the available official evidence documents policies and support guidance, not how often these problems happen or whether Samsung performs worse than competitors.
Why do people say Samsung is bad?
The phrase can describe very different frustrations. One person may mean that a Galaxy phone received an update later than expected; another may dislike One UI’s features or encounter unwanted ads. Repair costs and customer-service experiences can also shape opinions. These concerns deserve to be separated rather than treated as proof that every Samsung product is poor.

Samsung’s published material can establish what the company says about updates, advertising controls, troubleshooting, security patches, and service access. It does not establish complaint rates, customer satisfaction, or a like-for-like performance comparison with other manufacturers. The evidence therefore supports a guide to the issues and their limits—not a verdict that Samsung is categorically bad.
Are Samsung phones bad because of software updates?
Update expectations are a plausible source of frustration: a long support commitment does not mean that every model receives every update or feature at the same time. Samsung says Galaxy security-update support can last up to seven years. The company also groups devices into monthly, quarterly, and biannual security-release schedules; timing can vary by product and market. The seven-year maximum should not be read as a uniform schedule or feature guarantee for every Galaxy device.

Samsung’s One UI 7 support guide addresses failed downloads, installation concerns, and performance problems after an update, and identifies eligible phone and tablet families. It also notes that some AI features may be limited or unavailable on certain listed devices. This is useful model-specific guidance, but it does not show that update failures are widespread or establish that Samsung updates arrive later than competitors’ updates.
Can Samsung phones feel slow or show unwanted ads?
Samsung’s support guidance describes slowdowns, freezing, or unwanted ads that may occur after installing third-party apps. It recommends checking or removing suspicious apps and using Device Care. That documents a troubleshooting scenario and Samsung’s suggested response; it is not evidence that Samsung software routinely causes these symptoms or that every case has the same cause.

Samsung also recommends security measures such as Auto Blocker, installing apps from official stores, and keeping software current in its mobile-device security guidance. These are protective recommendations, not a guarantee that all unwanted software or security threats will be prevented.
Does Samsung use targeted advertising?
Samsung’s 2025 Sustainability Report says users of its mobile and IoT devices can opt out of targeted ads and receive generalized ads instead. Samsung also says that when it collects and uses personal information for targeted advertising, it provides notice and obtains consent. These are company statements about its policy and available control.

That opt-out addresses targeted advertising, not necessarily every promotional notification, app recommendation, or regional software bundle a user might dislike. The cited policy does not establish how often Galaxy users encounter those other forms of promotion.
Do Samsung’s security bulletins mean Galaxy phones are less secure?
No conclusion like that follows from the existence of security bulletins. Samsung says its regular firmware updates include fixes for Android issues released by Google as well as Samsung-specific issues. Its rolling security bulletin lists dated vulnerabilities and patch information.

A vulnerability count by itself cannot show that Galaxy phones are uniquely insecure: a fair comparison would need matched devices, time periods, severity, exposure, and a device denominator. The bulletins show that issues are reported and patches are issued; they do not provide that comparative ranking.
What is known about Samsung repairs and customer service?
Samsung Electronics reported that it operated 13,784 service centers in 216 countries at the end of 2023 in its 2024 Sustainability Report. The report describes support options including phone, chat, email, remote consultation, web self-help, in-store assistance, and repair channels.

This company-reported network figure describes service reach, not repair quality or customer satisfaction. It does not establish whether a center is available nearby, what a repair costs, how long it takes, or whether a repair succeeds. Individual customer accounts may explain one person’s experience, but they cannot by themselves establish a general pattern.
How to judge a Samsung complaint before drawing a conclusion
- Identify the device and market. Update schedules, feature eligibility, and service options can vary by model and region.
- Separate a policy from an outcome. A support commitment or troubleshooting page explains what Samsung says it offers or recommends; it does not measure how consistently users experience it.
- Look for a comparable basis. To decide whether Samsung is worse than another maker, compare the same model tier, support period, update timing, privacy controls, and local repair outcomes.
- Treat anecdotes as individual evidence. A complaint can be valid without showing how common the problem is across Galaxy owners.
The official material cited here does not resolve whether these complaints are more prevalent for Samsung than for competitors. It does show why the broad label “bad” needs to be unpacked: update expectations, software issues, advertising controls, security information, and service access are distinct questions.
