Samsung Gallery’s OneDrive sync ended on September 30, 2026. Previously synced media remains accessible in OneDrive, and Samsung identifies the OneDrive app’s Camera backup feature as a way to store new photos and videos. These are separate services with different ways to retrieve data.
What Samsung Cloud does—and what it does not
Samsung Cloud is for selected Galaxy device backups and account-data syncing, not a general-purpose photo library. Samsung Support US lists device-backup categories such as call logs, messages, contacts, calendar, clock, settings, home screen and app data. Its listed sync categories include calendar, contacts, reminders, Samsung Notes, Bluetooth settings and Wi-Fi settings. The exact categories can depend on device and software.

Samsung Support US states: “Gallery: Your photos and videos cannot be backed up to Samsung Cloud, however the Gallery on all your Galaxy devices can be backed up with Microsoft OneDrive.” That older support article describes the distinction between Cloud device backups and Gallery media; its description of the OneDrive integration is no longer current after the September 2026 shutdown.
Backup and sync are not the same as downloadable files
A Samsung Cloud device backup is intended to be restored to a compatible Galaxy device; Samsung says it cannot be downloaded as a set of individual files. The web portal may show information about selected synced or backed-up data, but some synced app data appears only as a summary rather than as separate files.

Sync also behaves differently from a one-way archive. Samsung Germany’s July 10, 2026 guide describes sync as reconciling changes between a device and the cloud; depending on the service and settings, deleting an item on one side can cause it to be deleted on the other. Check the behavior for the specific feature and account you use.
What happened to Samsung Gallery–OneDrive sync?
Samsung Support Australia announced on September 29, 2026 that Samsung Gallery sync with Microsoft OneDrive would no longer be available as of September 30, 2026. The integration’s account-linking information was deleted. Previously synced photos and videos remain in OneDrive and can be accessed through the OneDrive app, but they are no longer viewable in Samsung Gallery through that integration.

Samsung also identified related changes to Story Sync and to OneDrive media display in Samsung TV and monitor Gallery and Family Hub Gallery. The announcement is from Samsung Australia; feature availability and exact effects can vary by country, device and software version.

If you used Gallery sync, open the OneDrive app or website and check that the expected photos and videos are present in the account you linked. Samsung says the existing synced media remains in OneDrive. To keep local copies, download originals from OneDrive; for a large batch, check available phone storage first. Samsung notes that bulk downloads save only files that fit in the device’s available storage.

Do not rely on the former Samsung Gallery integration to browse or retrieve those files. Samsung’s post-shutdown guidance points users to OneDrive itself for access and downloads.
How to keep backing up Galaxy photos
Use OneDrive Camera backup
Samsung’s Cloud team says: “You can continue storing photos and videos to OneDrive using the Camera backup feature within the OneDrive app.” This is a OneDrive app feature and does not recreate Gallery sync or make the OneDrive library appear inside Samsung Gallery.

Consider the Google Drive/Google One option
Samsung’s US Gallery guidance describes a separate route through Google backup. On supported software, the path is Settings → Accounts and backup → Back up data under Google Drive; enable Backup by Google One and Photos & videos in the backup details. Menu labels and availability can differ by software version and market, so check the options shown on your Galaxy phone.

Samsung Cloud retention and recovery
Samsung Support US says Cloud data that has not been used for more than 12 months may be deleted, with advance notice; once deleted, the affected data cannot be recovered. Review current notices on your device or account rather than treating Samsung Cloud as permanent storage.

Keep the recovery method in mind before relying on a service: Samsung Cloud device backups are restored to a compatible device, while OneDrive originals can be downloaded from OneDrive. Those are different recovery jobs and should not be confused.
