Start with the ambient or screensaver features built into your current TV: Google TV and Android TV can show curated art or personal photos, while Samsung offers free Art Store options on supported models. If those do not fit, consider an eligible Fire TV device or the WindowSight app.
The right choice depends on what you mean by “alternative”: avoiding a subscription, using your own images, getting a curated catalog, or recreating The Frame’s art-focused display on another television. Those are different needs, and ordinary screensavers are not necessarily equivalent to Samsung Art Mode.

Compare options by compatibility, whether you want curated art or personal images, catalog and rotation controls, any recurring cost, and art-specific behavior. Samsung says light adjustment and motion sensing are available only with selected Art TVs; a regular screensaver should not be treated as identical to The Frame’s Art Mode.
Use the features already on your TV
Google TV: choose Ambient Mode content and slideshow controls
- Open Settings → System → Ambient mode → Source.
- Choose Google Photos, Art Gallery or Custom AI Art.
- If you choose Google Photos, select albums and adjust slideshow speed in Google Photos settings.
Google says dynamic slideshows are available only on eligible Google TV devices globally with at least 2 GB of RAM. That requirement applies to dynamic slideshows, not necessarily every Ambient Mode source.

Android TV: set the screen saver through Google Home
- In the Google Home app, open the TV’s device settings and select Ambient mode.
- Choose Google Photos or Art Gallery and configure the available options.
- If the change does not take effect, check the TV’s own screen-saver settings; Google notes that options vary by television.
Samsung: check free streams and personal-photo tools first
Samsung’s UK support page describes Art Store Streams as a free option with 30 artworks per month, each displayed for five minutes before rotating. The same page describes a broader catalog of more than 5,000 works, but that figure is not the number included in the free monthly stream. Availability varies by country and model, and Art Store access requires a compatible TV and account.
Samsung also says owners can display personal photos and selected free artwork without paying; access to premium catalog content may require a subscription. Check the TV’s Art section or Art Store for the options available on that specific set. Samsung says Art Mode is available on The Frame TVs and OLED S95H, with availability varying by model year and region—not on every Samsung TV.

Consider another app or a streaming device
WindowSight: check app support before relying on it
WindowSight’s Google Play listing describes browsing art on a TV and a collection of more than 6,000 works. That is a listing claim, not independent testing of catalog size or performance. Search the app store for your exact TV or streaming-device platform and review the applicable terms before choosing it.

Amazon documents Ambient Experience for eligible Fire TV devices and specifically warns that it is not available on all of them. Confirm that the setting appears at Settings → Display & Audio on your device. Amazon documents timeout controls for Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation); do not assume the same controls are available across other Fire TV models.

Buying a streaming device makes sense only if the TV’s built-in features and supported apps do not meet your needs. Before purchasing, verify that the device supports the desired ambient feature, works with your TV’s input, and is available in your region.

No. A screen saver or ambient mode can show artwork or personal images, but the features are not necessarily the same as a display designed for art. Samsung describes Art Mode as a special mode that displays art instead of a blank screen when the TV is turned off. Its selected Art TVs can also offer light adjustment and motion sensing. Do not assume another TV’s ambient mode duplicates those behaviors.

These options describe ways to display images; they do not establish comparative burn-in risk or energy use. Also distinguish a timed screensaver from leaving a still image on the screen indefinitely: the cited feature descriptions do not establish that every product behaves the same way in either case.
