What is a Samsung account used for?

How does two-step verification work?
Two-step verification asks for your password and then an additional security check, such as a code. Samsung describes it as a way to prevent someone else from signing in to your account. Depending on your account and region, available options may include a text message, a notification or code on a Galaxy device, an authenticator app, or backup codes. Can I use SmartThings Find after enabling two-step verification?
Samsung includes this question in its account FAQ. Two-step verification is a sign-in security check; use the verification method available to your account when signing in to Samsung services, including SmartThings Find. Samsung’s FAQ does not establish that every verification method is available on every account or device.

How can I find my Samsung Account ID or password if I forget it?
Use Samsung’s account sign-in recovery flow to look up your ID or reset your password. If you need to remove an account from a device but have forgotten the password, Samsung’s UK instructions say to reset it online first. The screens and options can vary by region.
What if I changed my phone number or cannot receive the verification code?
First check whether another Galaxy device is already signed in to your Samsung account, or whether you saved backup codes. Samsung also documents authenticator apps and other verification methods, but the options depend on what you configured.

Samsung Canada says its phone-number change process for two-step verification may take two weeks for security reasons. That estimate applies to the process described for Canada; check Samsung’s current support flow for your region. If you still cannot complete verification, Samsung advises contacting Samsung Support. How do I remove a Samsung account from a Galaxy device?
Removing the account signs it out of the device; it does not permanently delete the account or its connected Samsung service data. Samsung’s UK guide requires the Samsung account password to remove it from a device. If you have forgotten the password, reset it online before starting.

- Open the device’s account settings and select the Samsung account.
- Choose the option to remove the account from the device.
- Enter the Samsung account password when prompted and confirm.

How do I permanently delete a Samsung account?
Permanent deletion is handled through Samsung account settings on the website, not by removing the account from a phone. Sign in to the Samsung account website, open the account settings, and follow the deletion option shown for your account. The precise screens and available options vary by country and website version; Samsung Canada provides a setup and management guide.

What should I check before deleting the account?
Deletion can remove account details, personal information, and remaining data associated with connected Samsung services. Samsung India specifically warns that this can include downloaded items and purchase history. Review what is connected to the account before continuing.

- Sign out of the Samsung account on your devices first. Deleting the account does not automatically sign devices out.
- Check Samsung services, downloads, and purchase history tied to the account.
- Consider future device needs: after deletion, you cannot use that account to sign in to devices to reset them or erase information.

Why might Samsung not let me delete the account?
Unresolved payment or subscription issues may prevent deletion. Samsung Canada also notes that deletion screens and options can vary by country and website version, so the route or wording on your account may differ from another user’s.
