This changes the phone’s screen lock—not your Samsung Account, Google Account, email, or app password.
Change the screen-lock password

Tap Lock screen. On some software versions, the menu is called Lock screen and AOD.

Tap Screen lock type.

Enter your current PIN, pattern, or password when prompted.

Select Password, then follow the on-screen instructions to enter and confirm the new password.

Lock the phone and try the new password once. Keep the old credential available until you have verified that the new one works.
Samsung’s US instructions use Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Screen lock type; Samsung Australia documents Settings > Lock Screen > Screen lock type for Australian variants. Menu wording can differ by software version and region. If you do not see the same labels, search Settings for “Screen lock type.”

What the screen-lock options mean
Password is one of several screen-lock choices Samsung lists for Galaxy phones and tablets. Choose based on the input method you want; availability can vary by device and software configuration.

These are different input styles; the available choices and their behavior can depend on the phone’s configuration. Samsung’s screen-lock guide lists these basic lock types.

If you forgot the current password or the new one
You cannot enter the current lock in Settings
The normal Settings change flow requires the current screen-lock credential before it lets you choose a replacement. If you cannot unlock the phone, the cited instructions do not establish a universal bypass. Avoid third-party tools that promise guaranteed access; contact Samsung support for guidance relevant to your region and model.
You recently changed the screen lock
Samsung says a previous PIN, password, or pattern may be usable for a limited recovery period of 72 hours on supported Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later. This is not a guaranteed option for every Galaxy A14 variant. See Samsung Ireland’s instructions for using a previous screen-lock method for the applicable conditions.

Changing an account password instead
If you meant the password for a Samsung Account, Google Account, email account, or a particular app, change it in that account’s settings or recovery flow. The Galaxy A14’s Screen lock type setting changes only the credential used to unlock the device. Samsung’s Galaxy A14 5G support page describes screen locks as a phone security feature.
