Check which DLSS feature the override changes, then test a per-game setting against the game’s native option using the same scene and workload.
First, identify which DLSS feature is involved
“DLSS preset” can refer to different controls. Super Resolution reconstructs the image at the selected scaling mode. Frame Generation creates additional frames, while Ray Reconstruction is another distinct DLSS technology. A setting intended for one component is not automatically a fix for another. NVIDIA describes these as separate DLSS technologies in its DLSS overview.

Before changing anything, check the game’s graphics menu and the NVIDIA App override to establish whether the symptom involves Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, or a combination. The game’s support and integration determine which override options are available.
Why one Super Resolution preset may not suit every game
NVIDIA’s April 2026 guidance makes its recommended Super Resolution model dependent on the scaling mode: Preset M for Performance, Preset L for Ultra Performance, and Preset K for all other modes. That is NVIDIA’s recommendation, not an independent benchmark proving the best result in every title.
#1 Best Overall
- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
GPU generation also matters. NVIDIA says RTX 20 and RTX 30 Series GPUs lack native FP8 support, and that Models M and L have a heavier performance impact on those cards. For those GPUs, NVIDIA says Preset K may offer a better balance. A preset that is appropriate for one mode or GPU can therefore be a poor starting point for another.
These trade-offs establish why a blanket override deserves checking; they do not establish that it causes frame-pacing problems in every game. To diagnose an individual case, consider the exact game, GPU, DLSS feature, and observed frame-time behavior.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Check whether the override is global or per game
NVIDIA App supports global and per-game DLSS override settings. A global choice can affect multiple compatible games, while a per-game choice lets you adjust the title where the problem occurs. The available options depend on the title and feature implementation.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open NVIDIA App and select Graphics. Find the game in the list and open its settings to reach that title’s Program settings.
- Inspect the DLSS override. Note which feature it controls and whether the setting is global or specific to this game.
- Compare with the game’s native behavior. Where the override exposes “Use the 3D application setting,” select it to return control to the game. NVIDIA Support documents this option for its Frame Generation override workflow; the exact choices depend on the title and feature.
- If you use an override, configure it for this game. For Super Resolution, start with the NVIDIA recommendation for the game’s scaling mode, and account for the GPU-generation caveat above.
- Change one setting at a time. Compare the same scene and workload, paying attention to frame-time consistency, image stability, and responsiveness. This controlled comparison helps isolate a setting; it is not a guarantee that any particular preset will improve pacing.
NVIDIA Support’s override instructions were updated February 3, 2025, and describe an earlier settings workflow. Treat them as guidance on the override concepts and documented option, not as a statement of current minimum driver or app requirements. See NVIDIA Support: Enabling DLSS 4 overrides in NVIDIA App.

Keep Frame Generation troubleshooting separate
If the setting under investigation is Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, check frame-rate limiting and V-Sync separately. NVIDIA says its Dynamic mode, which adjusts the frame-generation multiplier as GPU load changes, is currently incompatible with frame-rate limiters and V-Sync. That is a specific Dynamic MFG caveat; it is not evidence that a Super Resolution preset causes pacing problems.
NVIDIA also warns that native DLSS Frame Generation and Smooth Motion should not be used together, stating that they are competing technologies and that combining them results in lower performance and visual artifacts. This warning appears in NVIDIA’s Driver Installation Guide, in its DLSS, Smooth Motion, and Reflex section. Check which features are enabled before attributing a symptom to a Super Resolution model.

Choose the setting by what you observe
| Choice | When it helps | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Use the game’s setting | When establishing a baseline or checking whether the override is involved | Select “Use the 3D application setting” where exposed, then compare the same scene and workload. |
| Global override | When the same configuration is suitable across the compatible games you use | Confirm that the affected DLSS component, scaling mode, GPU, and observed results support applying it broadly. |
| Per-game override | When one title behaves differently or needs a different mode-specific choice | Adjust the affected title without assuming the same setting is right for every game. |
Frame pacing is an observed result, not something that can be inferred from the preset letter alone. If changing an override does not alter the same-scene frame-time behavior, the setting may not be the cause; the available evidence here does not establish a universal causal link between a shared Super Resolution preset and degraded pacing.
